  • Easy to read, seems accurate
Color: White
I'm happy with the accuracy and build of this monitor. When I check outside air, the PM 2.5 agrees with local Purple sensors, which are pretty good. It uses the same type of laser particle counting cartridge. CO2 is correctly in the 400s. Temperature is spot-on checked against my Chef-Tap. It's hard to know what the VOC means, but it does rise in the basement where it smells a little musty. The sound monitoring is the only thing that doesn't work well. It never drops below 43 dB, probably because the sensor is too close to its internal fan. That's a small quarrel, given that my ears can tell me the noise level perfectly well. The form factor and screen are beautiful, and I'm hopeful it will last a while since the particle sensor is replaceable. The display is crisp and clear, and you can set a priority measurement to be large enough to read at a glance or put it into a clock mode with small air quality displays at the bottom. I was pleasantly surprised that it doesn't need the app at all. It can connect to wifi on its own, with a touch-screen keyboard to put in the password. Connected to wifi it shows hourly and daily graphs and you can set your city for local weather. The automatic time zone setting doesn't work, but it's easy to set manually. It does function off of wifi, but only shows time and immediate sensor readings. The app shows the readings and graphs but I doubt I'll use it much unless I get one of their satellite pm 2.5 sensors. It's designed to integrate into Xiaomi's Mi Home and could probably control connected air filters but that's not of much use in the US. Overall, it's a pricy sensor but well worth the money. ... show more

  • A reliable and very responsive air monitor
The Qingping monitor has been a useful investment for indoor air quality. We are checking it frequently for how much fine particulate has entered our sleeping area from a nearby window, esp after outdoor monitors report concerning levels (for that I rely on the PurpleAIr.com network). This little high tech device seems very responsive and believable for tracking a balance of air quality conditions, including temperature, humidity, CO2, VOCs and PM2.5 particles. The CO2 is a good indicator of how well the air is refreshed in a room, as breathing definitely raises the levels. The VOC measure is a general indicator of whether any sort of solvent is present. We find it interesting that it goes up in response to whether we have had any alcohol, but since it isn't a specific chemical indicator, it's more general for showing clean air status. The particulate response is very quick and is assuring if we turn on our room air filter fan when outside levels are getting dangerous to breathe and we can note that the values improve. The touch screen is very pleasing with all values present, including a clock display. The actual unit is small, so it can't be read from more than a few feet away, but the wifi connectivity is really great, so we have this device on our smartphones to easily access all the values, including a graph display of each parameter over time to show trending. The only minor issue to all the good stuff is that the wifi app is kind of insistent, making itself known on your devices by popping up over whatever you were doing online. No doubt there's a setting to change that. The printed guide that comes with it is in Chinese, but there's an online English version. If you just download the app, the setup is easy. There is a small fan drawing air through the monitor but it is totally silent. ... show more

  • Really, really pretty!
I don't want to give this device 5 stars, because there are missing features I'd like: * Why no homekit integration? * Give me a way to send data to my own applications (like Home Assistant) without weird workaround hacks like DNS redirection * PM2.5 is great, but I'm betting the sensor supports at least PM1 and PM10 as well, which would be useful. * The screen changes from an "all gauges with one big" view to an "analog clock with complications for data" view after an arbitrary timeout of a few minutes, and there seem to be no settings about it. I like both, but I'd like to be able to pick, I think. * It has weather for your location, but the location database seems to be missing most locations. If there's a big city near you, that's what you'll get, and it might not be usefully-accurate as a result. Also, the forecast UI isn't at-a-glance useful, which it could be with such a good screen. Those (generally minor) gripes out of the way - this thing is GORGEOUS. If Apple made a standalone AQM with a touch screen, it'd be this. The 320ppi screen really is as gorgeous in person as it looks in renders. The unit gets noticeably warmer than the surroundings, maybe 5F, but the air temperature measurement is still spot-on so the airflow design must be good. It's just VERY satisfying to look at. ... show more
