Features

  • Usable in cone holders or kiln sitters
  • Most accurate way to control ceramic firing
  • Consistent results
  • Orton has been manufacturing since 1896

Description

These small Pyrometric Cones are used on a shelf inside a kiln or in a kiln sitter to determine when a firing is complete, if the kiln provided enough heat or if there was a problem during the firing. These Orton cones are made from carefully controlled compositions so that they bend in a repeatable manner over a very small temperature range. When used in a cone holder the cone tip sags until it reaches a point level with the base indicating the kiln has properly fired. The cones can also be used in a kiln sitter with equally accurate results. Cones have been used in ceramic firings for more than 100 years and Orton has the history and experience to provide the very best product. The number of this cone is 04 which bends at an approximate temperature of 2008 degrees Fahrenheit depending on firing conditions.

  • Finally, the right cones!
I received two boxes of 04 cones before they finally sent the 05 cones that I originally ordered. I use them to operate my kiln. Now I am up and running again.

  • Best on the market
I've used this brand, and type....type being the cones vs bars....for years. I much prefer the cones over the bars since I can control variations in my firing and can't with the bars. By this I mean if I need just a few degrees hotter or cooler than the cones fire at the correct position then I can move the cone over one direction or the other and it changes the temperature just that little bit to get the outcome I need for my work This is the best product on the market for firing a cone controlled kiln in my opinion. You can never go wrong with Orton pyrometric cones. ... show more

  • The cones are connected and need to be separated.
The cones are connected and need to be separated. I needed to separate them and broke several. Other than that the product is just what i ordered.

  • Save your money, time, and sanity by NOT purchasing these cones!
They come two attached to each other and you are supposed to break them in half to use one. However, they don’t break cleanly and the few that do break cleanly won’t stand-up so the whole box is useless. Don’t bother purchasing these. Poor design.

  • Firing Cones
I was in a bind because my local ceramics shop was out of my firing cones. These arrived quickly and in great shape. Pairs are stuck together but they easily came apart.

  • As expected
Expected Orton quality. Good price.

  • cones not as shown but not critical of the Industrial site.
the cones arrived as two cones connected down the middle with instructions to 'snap' them apart. This was extremely hard to do without breaking the cones. Only by scraping the joint to thin it out was I able to break them apart. I had many break and become unusable. So not happy with Orton because of this the people I ordered from were fine, sent the order quickly, well packed, etc. ... show more
