As a high energy dog breed owner, I am always shopping around for long lasting, affordable chews that won't damage my dog's teeth. When I was younger, I made the mistake of giving her bones and antlers and as a result, she had to have a major extraction of a broken tooth and she has several others that are chipped. Now that I'm a licensed vet tech, I try to educate people on how dog's enamel is actually thinner than our enamel, so if it makes you cringe when you think about chewing on it, don't give it to your dog. These chews are soft enough to chew through after they work on them for a while, but not too hard to where it will damage their teeth. They are also very digestible, so when my dog decides she'd rather just swallow the last of it whole, it still will break down and pass easily. Now obviously, you have to sacrifice chew longevity for the health of your dog's teeth, but it keeps her occupied for 15-20 mins at a time. She also can be weird about treats either being too low value to where she's not interested, or too high value to where she would rather try to bury it in different locations around the house. This chew seems to fall in the sweet spot of value for her, so that makes us both happy. Update: my dog ended up being one of the few dogs who is sensitive to gluten based on recent lab work. The diagnostic lab recommended novel or hydrolyzed protein diets that exclude gliadin. I was worried I’d have to deprive her of one of her favorite treats! After some research, some of the flavors do have barley flour, but the venison flavor seems to follow the recommended guidelines. Phew! Thanks Purina for making a treat that can be given to dogs with chronic enteropathy. It can be challenging to find things to give to these dogs that won’t upset their tummies! ... show more

It takes my dog about a week to finish one of these treats. The attached picture is one I gave him about an hour ago. In this time he guards them fiercly from the cat (who does not want them anyway). I should add he is not a food motivated dog and I had tried many different dog treats that he would not eat before stumbling upon these. This is on my subscribe & save for delivery every 2 months. I recently bought a small bag of the duck mini knots at the grocery store. He loved them as well. Unlike the venison bones it took him less the a day to eat a knot. I have now added those to my monthly subscription. I may move the venison to every 4 months now. ... show more

Gayby is an agressive chewer..every treat I offer him is gone in seconds. But prime ones, they last. He's a medium size dog, I started with the larger bones because I believed he'd be done with it quick..I moved that down to medium when I saw it took him close to three hours to finish one. Then once the excitement of a new treat wore off, he would only get through half of his medium bone, then try to hide the rest....so, I went down to the small size. PERFECT! They are just the right size to satiate his chew and satisfy his treat tooth (and I get more in the bag, at less of a cost 😁). Prime Bones are Gayby's very favorite treat. When he runs out, he will pout and give me whale eyes when I can't give him his bone after his walk, when his Amazon box comes, he gets so excited and helps me get them out of the box... He does not act like this with anything else. I love these treats so much because I know they make my boy so so happy. And the price is good, especially since a small one works. ... show more
