I could not find 1" foam mats sold at lower price than these. The mats are high quality and perform exactly as I hoped they would. These mats are indeed 1" thick high density foam and provide a firm yet cushioned surface for a variety of uses. I bought these mats to place under a shag rug, to provide a more comfortable surface to sit on when sitting on the floor near a window in my bedroom. I no longer suffer from joint pain when getting up from sitting on the floor with these mats under the rug. These mats are rather firm and do not provide a super soft, giving surface, but that's exactly what I wanted because high density foam has much greater longevity as opposed to low density foam. The mats are perfect for protecting floors from heavy equipment, or for providing a more comfortable floor surface for sitting, standing, crawling, and other types of physical activities. I am very happy with the product and depending on your intended use, I'm sure you will be happy with it as well. Nice product. Large size and the thickness is great! They are quite plush. The only downside is that if you are placing them on a slick surface like hardwood, concrete, vinyl, etc they will slide. Not ideal for lots of movement like exercising. My husband and I are going to try and add some grips to the bottom. Other than that they are great!     • Great for home gym

We had some extra space in our garage which my significant other decided to convert into a home gym. He wanted a padded floor instead of working out directly on the concrete so he decided on these foam mats. They lock together really well and require no real effort to assemble together. I appreciate too that you can make the area as big or as small as needed with multiple pieces. They are a great insulation for high intensity exercises like rope jumping and are a great sound cushion for barbell work. Our only concern with these is our dogs sometimes like to run around the area and their nails do mark up the pads with scratches. It does not take away the useful effect of the pieces, but it is a visual flaw. So my advice is to be careful with any sharp objects or animals near them. They also clean up easily and do not hold any smell with routine maintenance and have been a great solution for our needs. ... show more

    • For Jiu Jitsu and striking practice

I got these so that my boyfriend and I can invite others over to roll, and practice Jiu Jitsu and sparring. These are better than all the other mats I could find on Amazon within a similar price range. They are twice as thick as other brands, and each square mat is twice as large as any other brands I’ve found as well. While I don’t think they are thick enough to throw your opponent to the ground, because obviously they are not as thick as the expensive gym mats at the Jiu Jitsu gym, rolling on them is extremely comfortable and you don’t feel the ground through them. They also look really nice, and two packs covered an entire room so now we have our own Jiu Jitsu room in our home. My friend bought a different brand and they were terrible, thin, and each square was so small for how much they were that we kept rolling off of them. He is going to get these mats instead now to replace the ones he bought. These mats are even more comfortable and thicker than my yoga mat as well so I don’t even use my yoga mat anymore.     • Great mats for underneath mattress in camping trailer

Very sturdy and firm surface, these pieces lock together solidly. We bought them to place on top of the wooden platform for the primary bed in our camping trailer, with the mattress on top of the mats. We were getting so tired of waking up with aching backs. We fit the pieces together and then custom cut the edges for a perfect, edge-to-edge fit on the platform. It makes a huge difference. We had 3 left over, and we pieced those together to use in the exercise studio for mat work. The surface is very firm, which is perfect. Three pieced together are the same size as a standard yoga mat, so we use a yoga mat on top for yoga workouts. I'm thinking about ordering a few sets to make a padded cell out of my closet, which would be a great place for me to hang out when the grandkids visit. Jk! ... show more

I am NOT using these for flooring, and so these are not as dense as I would have liked, but are still adequate for my usage. I've used the "half inch" two color variety that you can pickup at many big-box stores for flooring purposes. These 3/4" thick tiles are way better, especially on a poured concrete floor, so much so that I may just buy the 96sq ft pack of 3/4" to replace those half inch mats in my exercise room. I would not use these directly underneath heavy exercise equipment though.... the equipment will sink down into the matts over time and leave a permanent indention in the mat. Gym Rubber or rubber horse stall mat is better for that usage. These are best used for walking / workout surfaces. ... show more
