Multimodal and Versatility: - Ideal for underpainting. - Compatible with water and other mediums. - Can be broken into 1/4 or 1/2 sticks without losing stability. - Excellent for details due to breakability, consistency, and hardness. • Quality semi-soft pastels, smooth and beautiful colors
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
I have recently begun using soft pastels, after doing commissioned art in just about every other medium for the past 15 years. These are wonderful and are so useful for the finer lines sometimes needed in a piece, as in the foreground of my picture. A lot of artists also use them for underpainting. This is a good value for a professional product. ... show more

  • Good colors
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
I had never tried a hard pastel. I don't like the hardness, but that's just my opinion and does not reflect on the quality of this product. I have trouble blending these. But, you get a good assortment of rich colors. They were packaged well and shipped without damage.

  • These are fabulous!
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
These are really great pastels. Not only are they great for the experienced artist but they are also a great starter medium for someone who is inexperienced and would like to get dive in and get their creative juices flowing. i was curious about taking up painting with acrylics but i knew that it would, not only be a little expensive to get a good supply of paints, but there would also be the costs of canvases, brushes, etc. Also, living in new york I don't have a designated hobby space so buying these and some Strathmore Series 400 Sketch Pads was exactly what I needed to just start working with abstract color combinations. I'm so happy I did. The colors are rich, beautiful, fun to use and they also can be smudged with your fingers to add different shades and depth to your artwork. I ended up framing my one of my first pieces and it actually looks pretty good! ... show more

  • Good product
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
Just as advertised, quite a few of the sticks were snapped in half but obviously still useable. Colors pop and they're easy to blend.

  • Expensive, not so great packaging, overall a pretty good product.
Size: 96 Count (Pack of 1)
Overall I'm fairly happy with my purchase. I'm frustrated however that the packaging didn't contain bubble wrap and some of my very expensive pastels are damaged. One appears defective and it really makes me question the authenticity of this product. For a hundred dollars, more caution should be used in ensuring the product gets to me undamaged. Thank goodness only 3 were damaged. I'll update with more pictures and information after I've had a chance to use them. So far though, I'm not too impressed. After a bit of use over the last few weeks, here's what I've observed. The color is pretty rich and they're easy to work with. They break waaaayyyy too easily and the foam lining they're surrounded by comes up easily allowing them to slide out of place. I haven't found a remedy for this yet. Overall pretty on par with prismacolor products and I can appreciate it as an art person. Color selection is pretty good except for oranges. I'd purchase them again. ... show more

  • 25% Broken upon arrival. Don't freak out!
Size: 96 Count (Pack of 1)
I love (and use) this product. Hard pastels provide options that soft pastels do not, so mixing them gives the best of both worlds. 96 is Prismacolor's full color set, and for work that combines soft and hard pastels that should be plenty. Over 20 of the 96 pastels arrived broken. Pastel powder had leaked out between the box and the wrapping, so the box was smudged with pastel powder. I purchased a set of these a year ago in an art store, and the situation was the same. So I don't know if it's Amazon or Prismacolor that's to blame for the product arriving in less than perfect condition. The bottom line is; broken pastels don't bother me, and I remove them from the box for inclusion with my other pastels immeadeatly anyway. So the price of this product is great for what you get: beautiful pigments, and nice square edges for both blocking in big shapes, and small detail work. If you have been working in pastel for any length of time, you know it's a seriously messy business, and the centuries-old european manufacturers of soft pastels have the same breakage issues. It's really no big deal. Go on YouTube and look at the palettes of professional pastel artists. The first thing they do with a new pastel stick before adding it to their palette box is: break it! ... show more
