  • UPDATED: Where has this been? Awesome!
I have used injectors before. I had the big Premier hand-cranked number years ago which was serviceable but not great. I went back to store bought for some years after sin taxes were added to bulk tobacco for a time pushing a pound of tobacco from $16.00 to over $80.00 for awhile. I recently decided to get back into DIY cigarettes, injecting my own tubes after finding out that Golden Harvest tobacco ($19.95 a pound) is fine cut as opposed to the usual coarse cut typical for pipe tobacco and the price for a pack of American Spirit had climbed to $13.46 a pack. I smoke about 6 to 8 cigarettes a day, or about 12 packs a month at a cost of $116.00!!! That's a bit over $1,900.00 per year!!! So, I bought a Top plastic injector to start. Took about 40 minutes to roll a pack of cigarettes, but because the spoon can be packed to preference using the included tamper, I could make cigarettes that smoke as slow and cool as my American Spirit had. But it took too long to get the end result! I tried a few spiral injectors, and the principal is flawed in that the pack is inconsistent and frequently the coal falls off and sheds a lot of 'shake'. So I reconsidered 'spoon' loaders. In the various reviews, the Top PowerRoll is the only one that users commented on not only ease of use, but how consistent and firm you could make the pack. And here we are. Because of my experience with the hand held loader and using the tamper, my learning curve was over after the first pack was rolled. One thing I would impart is you need not pack the chamber tight to get a firm pack. In fact, far less tobacco is needed than with other spoon loaders. I rolled three pack in 40 minutes on my first outing, By my second pack's worth, it was going quickly! I was able to roll three packs, had no excess bits or shake left over and produced a superior end result to anything I have used previously. Not only that, it exceeded my expectations! I no longer miss my American Spirit cigarettes! I can nearly match the quality! Bear in mind, I am using Golden Harvest (menthol) which is finely cut. Your results using a coarse cut pipe tobacco may differ. My Tobacco is $19.95 per pound and that is enough for about 600 cigarettes. With the tubes ( using Golden Harvest menthol tubes) this works out to about $1.08 per pack as opposed $13.46. And now I can make my own smokes easily and fast with consistency. If you have never used an injector, I usually suggest starting with the Top hand roller. Get a feel for it. But if you leap right into a powered injector, this is the one to get. Just make time to learn the machine and perfect your packing. You will not be disappointed. If it is as durable as it is solid in performance, I expect to be cranking out smokes for some time. UPDATE as of 03/27/23 My original review still applies, but I wanted to add that, after some months of use, and a better understanding how the unit works, my cigarettes are consistent and as good as factory made. The packs I make leave little to no shake when finished. One suggestion I do have is let the machine do the work. Make sure to load the corners (edges)of the bin first as the instructions call for, and to not pack tightly. There is no need, as the machine compresses the load in the spoon perfectly. Just make sure it is full. Otherwise you will produce a cigarette that is too tight do draw and/or jam the machine. I have had no issue after my initial first few uses. I would suggest you get a can of a compressed gas 'duster', as used electronics and computer and blow it out every few uses. You'd be surprised how much loose tobacco shake can collect inside of it. Using this, I make perfect cigarettes for about $1.32 per pack. That is better than the $13.46 a pack of my preferred brand was costing me. Also, in my State of California has outlawed menthol cigarettes and tobacco, but I can legally purchace the tubes here on Amazon and the tobacco from an out of state vendor (National Cigar 'RollYouOwn' is a great source!) and not try to adjust to 'regular' tobacco. Also, I do not miss running to the store every four or five days. The machine is a worthwhile investment if you plan to continue smoking. ... show more

  • Great machine
This is my 2nd Top O Matic electronic rolling machine. The first one was bought at a small smoke shop in Tacoma, WA. It lasted for about four years. The current one was bought here on Amazon, I've had it about 3 months, and have had no issues with it. I use the Good Stuff tobacco and Golden Harvest Kung size tubes. In Mt experience with the topomatic, less is best when it comes to tobacco. Less also helps with jambs when using the machine. Tip: after you turn on the machine, look just above the blue light you will see a grayish circle. If you tap it with your finger it will activate the injector. With a tube and tobacco on it makes, making your own smokes a breeze. 😊 ... show more

  • The Best Mistake I have ever made
Just a little background I am a engineer by trade, 2 years ago almost to the day I bought the Powermatic ll. This was the first electric injector I had purchased. I was really pleased with the product and it made cigarettes I thought were perfect at the time. After about 6 months it was not packing the cigarettes like it was in the beginning. I took this product apart and found tobacco build up inside and the motor was having to work too hard to push the injector in-turn making bad cigarettes. I applied some white lithium grease to the stationary slide and taped pieces of a coffee filters over the breather slots. This helped and it was making cigarettes like new again. Well the motor died and I went to purchase a new one. I selected The Top-Omatic Power Roll by mistake, I thought I had cancelled the order but it arrived on my door step. I was dissapointed until I decided to try it, I could not believe it. This machine makes ciarettes perfect not good perfect. I liked that they made this machine for one size Kings I think this is one of the reasons they make them so good, plus it is built very well. I was able to make a carton of cigarettes with no jams and everyone of the cigarettes were perfect. I feel I got very lucky I recieved this product by mistake. It makes cigarettes twice as good as the Powermatic ll and the Powermatic does a good job. Time will tell to see how it holds up but after I made the first 10 cigarettes I went online to cancel the order for my new Powermatic. To me it made more sence to purchase the powermatic because I already used one for two years and I learned how to get around it flaws, plus I would have some back up parts. Being the mechanical person I am I would love to open it up and look and see the difference in designs but I am not going to touch a product that works so good. There is one thing that does concern me though sometimes when I make one I hear a plastic sqeaking sound, I don't know if it is a lack of lubrication or just breaking in the hold down button for the tube. I am just hoping it is not wearing out a part. I got a full year warranty so time will tell, I know this much my waste factor on tubes are going to be almost non exsistant. Another thing I have found out using these machines is when you have a jam don't force the issue by trying to cycle it twice clean it out it is not good for the injector nor the motor. I did find one thing out that will make these machine last longer and fix a jam a lot quicker. If they could add a clean out button for a Jam, If your able to cycle the machine with the tobacco chamber door open the motor will push out the jam with ease and you will not scratch or wear out the tobacco chamber or the injector. I actually made a bypass for my Powerematic ll and it works great, with the chamber open your able to cycle the machine and clear it out and it has to be really jammed where you would have to use the clean out tools. Way to go Top-O-Matic you have a great product and a happy customer. This one of my best mistakes I have made!!!! ... show more

  • Easy to use.
I like that the machine does 90% of the work and doesn’t have a lever like the other machines. Does a good job getting the tobacco all the way to the filter. I wish that the hopper for the tobacco was larger as I have to refill it twice as much compared to the powermatic. Overall a good machine.

Still going 4 years later. There's a part inside that always breaks, which they don't sell. But I 3d print it, so if I miss a twig, or the powder inside builds up too much it breaks again. But my 3d printed part is superior to the original that has metal and a bearing because it acts as a shear pin. This protects the rest of the machine, my part just shears off and travels in a circle in the Geneva gear. SO when mine breaks, about every 6 months, it just happily continues to make "air" cigarettes with no scary grinding noises. ^ months is about when you need to clean it out anyway, so I expect my machine to last forever, or til I quit smoking. whichever comes first. Paid for itself I don't know how many times. ... show more
