  • Packing punches and roiling the competition

Having begun my gaming “career” with Pong in the mid-70’s (feel my pain), upright machines, almost every console that ever existed, and now as an eSports coach, I feel confident in providing a brief but glorious recommendation for this PowerA controller. Playing with a controller is no easy feat, especially on a PC where many controls have been culled to accommodate keyboard and mouse players. Fresh out of the box, the controller is a bit ridgid, but shortly thereafter they shift gears and become more pliable. The design and feel are almost the same as the Microsoft Wired Controller with tactile buttons and stick movements, but include a few, hidden extras. Extras come in the form of three programmable paddle buttons underneath, as well as a convenient roller-rocker volume adjustment (see pic) just between the D-pad and right stick. The volume adjustment makes the controller have a bit more value added. The grip feels silicon-based and adds stability to most butterfingers. Another brilliant addition is the Share button which allows you to capture video or screenshots of in-game play, but currently doesn’t have software established for PC players. (Some may consider this less than a bonus, but in my eyes, I bought it for the controller and speed of play.) The “dead zones” for many FPS games are really accurate, and I find myself enjoying this heavily in Call of Duty and Rocket League. One of the best features is that the cord is completely detachable. As such, the input is “break-away” and the USB-Micro B port is recessed and protected from snapping off in all directions, unlike the wireless Microsoft controller inputs. The USB chip inside is fast and responsive, cutting down on lag when you press triggers or press buttons. The triggers do tend to be a bit touchy, as only 1/10th of the way will fire a CX-9 or Sykov in a game like Call of Duty, but who really wants to not have that kind of access in the heat of battle on something like Shipment (inside CoD joke)? As for the volume issues others are experiencing, I have had no issues, but usually I am connected through a different port, so I cannot relate well here. I bought a controller to be… well, a controller, not an audio pass-through. A bit over the cost of the Microsoft wired at $40 compared to Microsoft’s $25 (MSRP), this controller is well-worth the purchase and highly-recommended. ... show more

  • Great price, Bad longevity!
Color: Pink
I have purchased too many of these controllers from this company and everyone has stopped working within 1 week to 3 months of purchase. I am a gamer that plays for only 2-3 hours of playing time a day on average. If you are a serious gamer DO NOT BUY THESE! They will NOT last. The price is good for an occasional game player, but be careful when you put the controller down and unplug all the cords including headset if connected to prevent the pins from bending and warping the connecting holes on the controller. My biggest complaint has not been that it stops working, but that the 3.5mm plug hole in the controller stops working and then I have no sound through my headset, I am on my 5th controller with that same exact problem. It stinks because the controller functions normal with all others functions except that, which for Xbox is a big deal since the headsets connect to the controllers for older systems. I want the Company to fix the 3.5mm jack plug so it doesn't stop working!!!! please!!! ... show more

  • Flawless controller -- for the first few months.
Color: Black
Initially, I loved everything about this controller. The thumbsticks were nice and tight with almost no deadzones, the two extra programmable buttons are handy, the textured grip is nice, and all the buttons work flawlessly and don't stick whatsoever. Within the first few months, this would have been a 5-star review. Unfortunately, After using the controller for a few months, the left thumbstick has started drifting quite badly and become a bit sticky. It does mostly go away if you take the controller completely apart and swab the housing underneath the thumbsticks with q-tips and rubbing alcohol, BUT it only takes about a week to come back each time. (To its credit, this controller is much easier to disassemble than the standard factory controller.) The cord connection has also gotten very sensitive after a few months' time. The slightest tug in a certain direction causes the controller to disconnect, which happens WAY more often than I'd like it to. I also found out the hard way that third party controllers, like this one, do not work properly with wired audio headsets. Unless it is a factory-made wired controller, wired controllers like this one will cause a loud buzzing through your microphone, and in the ears of all your hearers. If you plan to use this controller with a headset and mic, make sure your headset is wireless. It's a shame, because it really feels like a quality-made controller overall. But besides the other issues, having to take it apart and clean it every week just to keep it functional has gotten a bit annoying. I give it 4 stars instead of 3, because I know it's difficult to find an aftermarket controller at this price point that isn't just plain junk. Despite its issues, it has still given me fewer problems than any other aftermarket controller I've bought, and I really like the tight thumbstick sensitivity (WHEN THEY WORK PROPERLY, of course!). ... show more

My son uses this on when he games with his friends. He said he likes the color and how it fits in his hand and how comfortable it is.
