  • A nice, inexpensive, set of plastic bats
Size: Round
If you're looking specifically for plastic bats, these are a pretty reasonable option, particularly for the price. There's a few gotchas to keep in mind with them, though. First, they're "hollow" underneath, which makes it easy to get clay gummed up in them and make them a mess. That's bad because a bat needs to really be as close to perfectly balanced as possible to not get a vibration in the wheel. If you get some clay stuck under it, they're not going to be. The second problem is something I think isn't ideal, even though they list it as a "feature" -- the concentric rings on the top. They also get clogged up with clay, and are a good bit deeper than normal grooves you'd find in a wheel. On top of being another thing to clean out, they do leave marks which need to be cleaned up, which is okay if you're throwing a bowl with a trimmed base, but not so much if its a broad plate that may not be. Third, which is an issue with plastic bats in general, is not all clays stick real as well to plastic as compared to fiberboard or wood. I'll use these for some pots, but most throwing I do really needs a more robust (even if more expensive) bat. ... show more

  • Perfect fit for my 12" wheel, great for throwing uniform sets
Size: Round
These bats are not only great for beginners for helping with centering, they are also great for more experienced potters who want to create sets of a certain size, or nesting bowls, etc. (Once you wire off the finished piece from the bat, and trim the feet or shape them, you won't see any impressions of the guide lines, so no worries about that.) They fit snugly and securely onto my 12" wheel (Shimpo V Lite). And on a more superficial note, I love these colors! They are so pretty and soothing to look at while throwing. Get yourself a little scrub brush to clean them between projects. Really good value for this set of 3! Also well-packaged and in a delightfully decorated box. :) Would certainly recommend to others, and would opt for these again. ... show more

  • Very high quality, well made, and no need to worry about warping like regular bats
Size: Round
I've been wheel throwing for many years and usually with conventional bats, it's so easy to get warping because of their absorbency. With these injection plastic molded bats, you don't have to worry about that. They have a very slightly textured surface, similar to a conventional bat, and if you're a beginner, I think the circular guidelines will make the learning process much easier for centering your clay. The honeycomb back provides support and stability and what you can't see from the photos, there are slots where the wheel pins fit so the bat will be kept securely in place. Overall a great purchase and good investment whether you're a beginner or more experienced potter! ... show more

  • Balanced Bats
Size: Round
I love the concentric circles with measurements - they make sizing your throw super easy. The holes on the bottom fit a standard bat system and are secure on the wheel. They are light weight and I love the terracotta colors. Overall, a good buy for the ceramist.

  • Helps with centering
Size: Square
I'm new to the pottery wheel and still trying to get the hang of centering my piece. The bats are very sturdy hard plastic with guide marks on them. They also make it easier to remove my piece without damaging it. Great for a novice.

  • Thick (plastic) come in a pack of four
Size: Square
These pottery bats are nice, thick (plastic) come in a pack of four 7.5 square. That being said, it did say it had Guiding lines (I thought the lines would be drawn on, not etched in. Etched in lines do not work when you are throwing on a wheel, as you now have this on the bottom of you piece and need to sand it off. I am thinking I will have to use these as drying bats instead of being able to actually use on the wheel. Was not able to use for my intended purpose but found a solution. ... show more

  • Interesting
Size: Round
These pottery bats are really interesting. I have never used bats before but decided to try these out and I do like them a lot. I am actually not using these for pottery and ceramics but actually for molding and carving and I do like them. The grid lines/measuring lines are super helpful. These are a pretty decent quality and I am anxious to see hat else I can use them for. ... show more
