Description

Pond Shield is a non-toxic epoxy liner, made in the U.S.A designed for the pond and water feature industry. It is used to waterproof and seal water features or ponds with a more designer, formal or natural look than rubber liners. Using Pond Shield epoxy means no more unsightly folds or creases. In addition, unlike rubber liners, there are eleven Standard colors available - Black, Charcoal Gray, Chocolate Brown, Clear, Competition Blue, Delta Blue, Gray, Moss Green, Sky Blue, Tan and White. Pond Shield is used for waterproofing structured surfaces found in water features such as Koi ponds, pools, fountains, aquariums, salt water tanks, hydroponics, streams, waterfalls, reflecting pools, mini lakes, holding tanks, etc. It is easily applied and easy to maintain and for most applications, a single coat application is all that is needed for proper coverage. In addition, your pond will be virtually maintenance free with a surface that algae can be easily wiped off of and is safe for fish (and other wildlife) and plants. Pond Shield offers both strength and flexibility in a coating in fact, strength and flexibility that is tested from -78 Degree F to 140 Degree F. Pond Shield is an epoxy pond liner that has been specifically designed to bond to porous or abraded materials such as concrete, wood, stone, most metals (treated and non- treated), brick, most ridged plastics, tile and many more. With a tensile bond strength stronger than the internal strength of the concrete, a single coat of Pond Shield epoxy will stick to what you apply it to. Over time, hairline cracks can form in concrete, mortar or grout joints. Being flexible, Pond Shield resists mimic cracking in these areas and provides the best protection possible in a coating.

  • Easy to apply
Style: Pond Paint Size: 48 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) Color: Competition Blue
What you get from Amazon: 1 quart of epoxy paint; ½ quart of hardener; instruction sheet. There was no millimeter measuring tool described in the instruction sheet. Project description: apply Pond Armor to a swimming pool concrete waterslide which is 6ft curved width x 14ft length = 84 sq ft. First wire brushed the slide and did the acid wash suggested in the instruction. The helpful Pond Armor customer service guy suggested I start applying at 6 AM and that I have a heating device ready to make any bubbles disappear; I had a hair dryer (don’t scorch or burn the pond armor) but there were no bubbles so I didn’t have to use it. I started at 7:30 AM August 8th, 2020 when it was cloudy and 70 degrees in San Diego. It took me four small batches and 90 minutes to apply the first coat using one good quality three inch brush on our 84 sq ft water slide. I still had to pick out about twenty brush bristles that stuck to the pond armor. I used 2/3’rds of the 1½ quart package. At 10:30 AM 80 degrees and sunny, the first coat was almost completely dry and slightly tacky. The brush from the first coat was rock hard so I threw it away. So I started applying the second coat; working quickly I applied about 20 sq ft in 15 minutes and then my batch turned into a lumpy mess so I quit for the day. At this hotter temperature (80 degrees) it’s too hard to quickly brush on the pond armor. Because I didn’t apply a 2nd coat when the first coat was tacky due to the heat, next day I had to lightly use 60 grit sandpaper on the 1st coat, making it ready to accept the second coat. Day 3 it was cloudy at 7:15 AM; applied the final coat in three batches over 30 minutes. Application technique: this material is self leveling so you can brush side to side or top to bottom. My waterslide was too curved to use even a 4 inch flat squeegee. Overall: great product; very slippery. Items needed for applying pond armor: Six pairs of disposable blue gloves. 16 oz container of Denatured alcohol or 70% or 90% isopropyl alcohol to mix with the hardener and the epoxy paint; also use it to clean off any stray pieces of epoxy paint. Six three-inch brushes; good quality so bristles do not come out of the brush and stick to the pond armor. Five used clean empty quart ice cream containers for mixing the alcohol, hardener, and epoxy. Six small measuring cups from laundry soap containers, with handles, no more than 2 inches wide to fit into the 3 inch wide quart container opening. Small trash can with plastic liner for used up gloves, brushes, paper towels, etc. ... show more
