Description

High-Performance Plugable Thunderbolt 3 Dock Experience high-performance expansion of your Thunderbolt 3-enabled Mac or compatible Windows Thunderbolt 3 system and gain 9 ports of connectivity with the Plugable Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station (TBT3-UD1-85W). Display - Connect a single display up to 4K 60Hz (4096x2160 @ 60Hz) via the integrated DisplayPort++ port. Thunderbolt 3's massive 40Gbps bandwidth enables you to run your high resolution display connected through the dock at the full native performance of your system's graphics processor while also enabling access to your wired network and existing USB peripherals. Ethernet - Supports connection to wired Gigabit Ethernet networks using the integrated Intel i210 Gigabit network adapter. Audio ports - Provides 3.5mm analog audio input and output jacks for connecting stereo headphones and a microphone. USB ports - Provides two extra USB 3.0 (5Gbps) ports and one USB-C (5Gbps) port for device connectivity (Front USB-C port does not support Thunderbolt devices or VESA DisplayPort Alternate Mode video output). Compatible with Apple Thunderbolt 3 systems and certain Windows systems which have Thunderbolt 3. Some Windows Thunderbolt 3 systems may work, but not support all of the functionality offered by this dock. Please see important details regarding system compatibility below. The ability to add a second display depends on design decisions made by your system manufacturer and requires additional hardware, sold separately. Docking station will not function if attached to a non- Thunderbolt 3 capable USB-C port. High Speed 85W Charging When connected to a compatible host system, the dock can provide up to 85W of charging power. Please note that not all Thunderbolt 3 systems can be charged via their Thunderbolt 3 ports. For example, high-end workstation class laptops may not be able to charge via Thunderbolt 3 High-speed connectivity to other Thunderbolt 3 Devices, or add a second display Gain an extra Thunderbolt 3 port to connect your high-performance peripherals that need 40Gbps of speed or add an extra display with purchase of a Plugable USB-C adapter. If you have a Thunderbolt 3 host system which supports two video outputs, a separate purchase of one of the following Plugable adapter cables or dongles is required in order to connect a second display: USBC-DP, USBC-HDMI-CABLE, USBC- VGA-CABLE, USBC-HDMI, USBC-DVI, USBC-VGA Flexible Connectivity The TBT3-UD1-85W dock has a built-in DisplayPort++ output to be used with DisplayPort monitors. Also included is a passive DisplayPort to HDMI adapter so that you can connect a HDMI monitor. The included 0.8 meter long (2.6 ft) 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 cable is 0.3 meters longer (1 foot) than the 0.5 meter cables included with other Thunderbolt 3 docks. Read more Compatibility Thunderbolt 3 is a powerful technology, and system manufacturers have substantial discretion in how they implement its various technical elements and features. As a result, compatibility information is complex, and some currently available Thunderbolt 3 systems do not support all the features offered by this Thunderbolt 3 docking station. System manufacturer must have physically routed two DisplayPort lines to the Thunderbolt 3 port. Currently all Thunderbolt 3 systems from Dell and Apple systems using an Intel processor meet this requirement. Apple systems with an Apple M1 processor support a single display onlyNot all Thunderbolt 3 systems can be charged via their Thunderbolt 3 port. Please check with your system manufacturer to determine your system’s charging capabilities. A: Yes, the dock will provide up to 85W of power to charge a compatible Thunderbolt 3 host system when the Thunderbolt 3 cable is connected to the dock's charging Thunderbolt 3 port (indicated with the laptop icon above it). Please note that not all Thunderbolt 3 laptops can be charged via Thunderbolt 3. Q: What does the white LED light on the front of the dock indicate? A: The presence of the white LED light on the front of the dock indicates a Thunderbolt 3 connection to the host system has been established. The white light will only be present when the dock is connected to a Thunderbolt 3 host. It is normal and expected that this light will not be present when the dock is not connected to a host laptop. Q: Can I use the USB-C charging cable that came with my laptop instead of the Thunderbolt 3 cable included with the dock? A: No, USB-C only cables are not compatible with Thunderbolt 3 functionality. A Thunderbolt 3 cable must be used in order for the device to function when attached to a Thunderbolt 3 port. Q: Are there any compatibility issues between specific 4K monitors and the TBT3-UD1-85W dock? A: Certain monitors may be incompatible or limited to 4K at a 30Hz refresh rate when connected through the dock's native DisplayPort output (this is an interoperability issue between the monitor display hardware and a chip in the dock; this issue is not limited to Plugable Thunderbolt 3 docking stations). Asus PB287Q, PQ321QDell P2715Q, P2415Q, UP3216QLG 31MU97C-B, LG 24UD58-B, LG 27UD58-B, LG 27UD68-PPhilips 288P6LJEBSharp PN-K321Viewsonic VX2475Smhl-4K, VX4380-4KSamsung U28E590D This can be worked around in some cases by changing the monitor's internal settings to use "DP 1.1", which will limit the display to 4K 30Hz. The included passive DisplayPort to HDMI adapter can also be used, which will also limit resolution to 4K 30Hz. Alternatively, the display can be connected using a Plugable USB-C to DP or USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect the display to the dock’s downstream Thunderbolt 3 port (as opposed to the DisplayPort output within the dock) which may allow 4K 60Hz functionality on affected displays. Q: Is there a recommended DisplayPort cable for use with this dock? A: We suggest using DisplayPort cables which meet the DP 1.2 specification, and cables of the shortest length possible will generally produce the best results. Plugable does not recommend cables over six feet in length. • Perfect for my MacBook Pro
Well I have been using this docking station for a couple of weeks now and I can say I definitely like it. It’s heavy and very well made. The aluminum case paired with the rubber feet will make sure the cables pulling from behind won’t move it. I wanted it for my MacBook Pro 16 inch and it didn’t disappoint. Thunderbolt worked without any issue “plug and play”. When it comes to the ports I have to say that it could definitely use at least one more USB A port just one more. Not a big deal tho because dual screen worked like magic! Which is why I wanted a dock in the first place. Oh and did I mention the 85W charging?!?!? Welp it’s AWESOME!!!!!!! and it is indeed 85w! Love it. ... show more

  • Excellent hub and well priced.
Works perfectly with a 2017 MacBook Pro 15 inch. Every port is being used and everything has been plug and play. No issue with sleep either, everything stays connected. The only thing I noticed is that the usb-c port on the front is not nearly as fast as the one on my LaCie thunderbolt hub. - the difference between gen 1 and gen 2 usb-c. But overall very happy with purchase. ... show more

  • Works well, but display port has an intermittent flicker
Works well with my MBP 16in. Powers it well. Dual monitor display works 95% of the time, but DisplayPort has an annoying flicker every so often.

  • Lots of ports, rugged design--but not bulky . . . fit my set up perfectly!
The device had all the ports I needed, including TWO Thunderbolt 3 ports and a DisplayPort as well. With the included Thunderbolt 3 cable I was able to extend Thunderbolt throughput two a second workstation area. 5 STARS!

  • Support Apple Thunderbolt Display with Apple Adapter
The main reason that I got this dock, was to connect my original Apple Thunderbolt display, and get additional ports. [CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL DISPLAY] Here's how to connect the Apple Thunderbolt display: Plug the Included 0.8m THUNDERBOLT CABLE into the MacBook Pro (2020, M1) 'Thunderbolt / USB 4 port', with the other end plugged into the 'Pluggable Thunderbolt 3 port with 85W Power Delivery'. That connects the dock to the MacBook Pro and provides power. Plug an 'APPLE Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter' into the Pluggable 'Thunderbolt 3 port', then connect that cable to the Apple Thunderbolt Display. NOTE: The MacBook Pro (2020, M1) has a 'Thunderbolt / USB 4 port'. Here, we are connecting a 'Thunderbolt 3 Cable', to a 'Thunderbolt 3 port with power delivery' on the dock. The M1 chip on the MacBook Pro (2020, M1) supports two displays, the laptop display, and one external display. A USB-C cable will not work if you try to connect the Mac to the doc with it. You need the 'Thunderbolt 3 Cable'. [OTHER PORTS USED] (1) USB-3.1 Gen 1 port for charging. (1) USB-3.1 port for charging. (1) USB-3 port to connect to the Apple Magic Keyboard (1) Gigabit Ethernet to connect to cable modem ... show more

  • Real thunderbolt 3 dock
I tested this with a 13" MacBook Pro 2019, and am quite pleased with the results. I tested downstream USB-C, USB-A, ethernet, display and charging. All seemed to work as expected. The device has a thunderbolt LED that illuminates when the MacBook is plugged in. The device is immediately detected and system information shows that it is providing 85W of charging. The dock itself is heavy, cased in actual metal, and feels very premium and right at home next to my MacBook and other apple peripherals. Even the power brick is clearly a name-brand and feels solid and quality. Definitely something I wouldn't hesitate to show off. I confirmed that the ethernet adapter is indeed an Intel chip, and it shows as attached via PCI, not USB, indicating that it is indeed a real thunderbolt device, and not just a cheap USB ethernet adapter attached to the hub. When you plug the dock in, a number of new ethernet devices actually show up in Network, but only the thunderbolt one actually goes live when you plug in a cable. I think maybe the USB ethernet that shows up is what would be active if the dock is plugged into a non-thunderbolt computer, but I'm not sure. I tested some downstream USB-A and USB-C devices with success. The rear USB-C port (also thunderbolt passthrough) shows to be clearly on a different USB bus than the front one, which is what you want to see - that this should be a high-performance device for multiple downstream high-speed peripherals. I plugged a 27" dell 2.5K monitor into the displayport on the dock, and confirmed that it works, is properly detected, and shows up as directly connected to the internal laptop's GPU. This indicates that the thunderbolt stuff is working as expected, and the display is tunneled back to the actual GPU, and not attached to some cheesy USB display adapter in the dock, which would be very bad for performance. I plugged and unplugged the dock several times, and into different ports on the macbook. I also had the macbook go to sleep and wake several times with the dock attached. I never experienced any flaky behavior or failure to detect the attached devices, which seems to plague some lesser docks. Thus, as far as I can tell, this is the "real deal" in terms of being a high quality truly-thunderbolt dock. My only complaint is that the included thunderbolt 3 cable is pretty short. It works fine if you put the dock right by the laptop, but if you want it to be further away, under the desk, etc, you'll need to buy another cable. That nit aside, this seems to be an overall win! ... show more
