  • Great wooden instrument for young toddler
This wooden xylophone was a first birthday gift given to my daughter a couple of weeks ago and I highly recommend it for young toddlers. Coming from Plan Toys, I know the materials are safe. It is well made and makes quiet musical tones. Being made of wood, it doesn't have really "crisp" musical tones like metal would, but it does make musical tones and is perfect for a young child. No loud, banging noises coming from this instrument :) The stick is somewhat of a safety concern for my daughter since she is only 1 and still puts things in her mouth, so we only her let her play with it when closely supervised and mommy/daddy are helping her play until she gets a little bigger. I don't anticipate any issues with breaking or paint chipping as it has held up to quite a bit of playing and being tossed around already. Hoping it will last for years to come! ... show more

  • Toddler-Proof Toy Xylophone
I bought this toy almost two years ago for my (then) 8 month old daughter. At the time, she was extremely fond of grabbing spoons and slamming the table legs with them, so I thought it would be a good idea to channel her energies toward more furniture-friendly pursuits. Hence the wooden xylophone. She has been happily slamming away at the thing ever since (in fact, tonight, she was just doing a two-fisted drum/xylophone whacking solo using the plan toys drum + this one). It's true that the sound is off key, but she has never cared - the satisfying sound of mallet hitting wooden key has definitely pleased her more than any of the twangy metal xylophones I've tried, and seriously, at this age, it's not like shes going to make a complaint to the conductor. She has also jumped on it, thrown it across the room countless times (drum solo gone bad), stretched the elastic holding the keys waaaay past what I thought was possible, and once tossed it off a two-story balcony without visibly damaging it in any way. I don't know if it's the magic wood in Thailand that makes this thing as indestructible as Freddy Kreuger, but there you have it: it's been a fave for 2 years, and I see plenty of happy smashing in the future. • Simple and durable
This product came very quickly and well packaged. Very simple design, I love the bright colors and so does my 15 month old. This is a lot quieter than the metal xylophones, which is one of the reasons why I bought it. It makes enough noise to entertain a toddler. It is also very durable, so far, it has been dropped several times because my toddler walks around with it banging on it. I highly doubt any toddler is going to tell their parents they hate this xylophone because it doesn't have perfect pitch and tone like the other reviews were saying. So if you want something simple, colorful and durable and you don't care about pitch and tone, this is def. for you and your child. ... show more

  • Sound not as good as I'd want from a xylophone
Construction is good and sturdy but the sound isn't as good as I wanted from a xylophone.

  • Not for messy toddlers.
This is a wonderful, natural musical toy. It is not tuned to a scale as others have mentioned, but it produces notes. Great for early learning. Since it is made of wood and comes with a wooden mallet, the tones produced are very pleasant. The colored keys are brightly painted, and the rest of this toy is natural wood. However, it is NOT waterproofed. This makes the toy susceptible to drool stains if your toddler is still mouthing objects. Any food/drinks that may get spilled may also create a stain. My thirteen-month-old son enjoys banging on all parts of the toy with reckless abandon and loved to listen to an adult play it with more precision. Overall a great, natural musical instrument! ... show more

  • Fantastic toy!
We just bought this for our daughter's first birthday and she LOVES it. In general, we have had great success with the "musical" instruments from plan toys - the solid wood drum is also a favorite. She likes to suck on the stick which makes me nervous, but if I'm not watching her like a hawk I just put it up. She can make the xylophone play by hitting it with any number of other wooden toys we have. The colors are lovely, the sound is sweet (not at all annoying) and it keeps our daughter occupied - we are fans! ... show more

  • Love this!
I love the look of this xylophone - it's very simple and cute. I also like that it is a quiet toy - and more importantly, our 2 year old daughter really loves this. She plays with it all the time! Some people complained that it's not in tune... it's a very simple wooden xylophone for young children - it's exactly what I expected. Very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Good for a multitude of ages
We bought one for our daughter in a 'green' store in Ohio. When we got a neice - guess what she got for first birthday? THIS THING! We love PLAN toys for a multitude of reasons - fair manufacturing processes, durability, TRULY non-toxic, and they are fantastic for creativity. This toy is much better than those awful metal clunkers and will last much longer. ... show more
