TLDR: This receiver has EVERYTHING I want and nothing I don't (at a budget price). REVIEW: I've loved stereos for years. While I've typically purchased Yamaha products the last 30 years, I think i may be a convert to Pioneer. Th Pioneer SX-10AE is a little more musical in that it's a little warmer and seems to have better/richer stereo imaging whereas my Yamahas of recent years seem a little sterile. My B&W CDM-1NT speakers sound great with this receiver, which is good news because I thought the speakers would want a lot more power. As I get older I find myself wanting convenience than anything else. POSITIVES: flawless bluetooth, bass & treble controls right on the remote control (no menu-diving), a bass boost button (come on, you know you want that) an RCA left&right "line out" (the line out is a constant-level output and is not controlled by the volume level), a subwoofer out, a simple remote with big buttons, a simple stereo receiver that has everything I want - I prefer my TV in stereo anyway. CONS: Just one I guess: If you have large speakers you might want more power. ... show more

This will be my second one. I purchased the first one for my daughter. Don’t be put off by the basic features, if you want an audio receiver this little unit delivers. It has that clean, clear Pioneer sound that I’m glad hasn’t been lost by the Onkyo takeover. In a small room and with a quality set of smaller speakers, only the most very picky listener would take issue with it. It’s easy to set up, operate and looks elegant. Got this for the bedroom, and I am very satisfied. I paired it with a set of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR on some fairly beefy metal stands and the sound is pretty great. I thought I would need to add a subwoofer for more low end, but after hearing this setup for a few weeks, I won't be doing that. The levels are more than sufficient across the spectrum, and the sound is fantastic considering the low price. If this was for a more music-focused critical listening setup, I would definitely add a sub, but for general use, the pairing sounds great. The SX-10AE has plenty of inputs, just no digital, but a good breakout D/A converter is cheap enough. I paired this one (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07142SV1D/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with SX-10AE to convert the digital output from my DTV box, and it works and sounds excellent. The Bluetooth receiver works great with my OnePlus 7T, connects fast, and with lossless source files and AAC enabled on my 7T, it sounds really good. The remote contains all necessary functions and works well, although it seems a little long. This receiver was a replacement for a 90's Pioneer receiver. It would rock the neighborhood with a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers. I had that stereo since I was a kid and, one day, it just didn't turn on. Very soon after, I purchased this receiver for a replacement as I need good music in my life. At first, I connected everything and was excited to listen to my first song. It didn't seem to be working. So, I checked all of the connections and tried it again. Come to find out, you need to turn up the volume quite a bit to get sound. And once I did, I found the quality from this receiver a bit lacking. It sounds flat. Bass is non-existent and it just doesn't have the crispness or the punch of my old stereo. I almost wanted to cry! In all fairness though, everything else about it is great. Pioneer hit the nail on the head with it's features and price point. But now, I'm stuck wondering, would 6 ohm speakers make an improvement over 8? Does all this stereo really need now is a subwoofer? I don't know. Maybe, someday I will find out. I really do want to give it a fair shake. If anybody has any advice, please leave a comment. In the meantime, I'm going to have to say this receiver is ~ alright. UPDATE: A year later, I finally spent a little extra money and purchased a subwoofer. It did improve the sound significantly, so I am adding a star. I'm still not happy that the added expense of a subwoofer is practically a requirement. Also, it is still seems like a relatively weak system. You are not going to throw a block party or bother your neighbors with this thing. However, all dialed in it does sound very good. This is a great receiver for trying to mix two independent systems together (Powered active monitor speakers and unpowered satalite speakers with the main source being TV headphone out {this lets me use 1 remote and have the tv manage audio routing from all devices}). It handles audio only which gets rid of so many annoying things about most revievers. The sound quality is superb and having both a seperate sub out an un affected line out solves a world of issues for me. The face buttons and controller are great, respond well and have a satisfying tactile response. The lack of extranous complexity is a delight. The only problem I have with it is the reciever can not output Line in 1 and 2 simultaneously, which having the button shared might be a hope that it did do it. I asked the question on amazon if it will let me do that before purchasing and got a couple of responses stating that it would let me. The question responders are very mistaken and I can only infer that they think I was talking about the speaker groups A/B being output simultaneously. I would be great if it did what I wanted as it would let me output the 2 sources like with my studio monitors. ... show more
