  • Great for home use
I was looking at a Technics or this turntable. After a lot of reviews said this sounded as good and was cheaper, I went with the Pioneer. So far it sounds fantastic. It's a heavy unit, but takes up the same about of space as most Turntables. Setup isn't hard, fine tuning is a little more difficult, but not to hard. It does not come with a cartridge. I paired it with a Audio Technics AT-VM95ML. You just connect to the 4 poles and slide it on the arm. Even with buying the Cartridge it was cheaper than the Technics of the same capabilities. Assembly of the table is as simple as putting in the table. You get different tops if you want to listen or DJ And scratch. So, something for any use. The player is well laid out and has slot for the 45 adapter. As I don't need the DJ options I just reset everything to defaults and played records. The instructions included and online can walk you through a proper setup. The player does not come with an equalizer or amplifier. My receiver has a Phono input so it plugs right in. If you don't have a Phono input you'll need an external device to get the sound to line level. It comes with a RCA cable and ground wire. It does not have auto return at the end of the record. Once everything was set I tried rock, jazz, classical, and it all sounds great. The lights blue record and a white needle light at not a distraction and the needle light can be turned off. Overall, a nice turntable for home use. I'm getting back into records and this was a nice compromise between a beginner turntable and spending over a $1K for a decent turntable. All seems good to me. ... show more

  • Amazing quality TT that won't break your bank.
Absolute quality! I replaced my AT-LP120XBT with the PLX-1000 and I couldn't be happier! This TT is HEAVY! Built as solid as it gets. Every single thing that was thin plastic on my old Audio Technica is solid metal on this unit. If you're wanting a higher quality TT and don't want to break the bank, this is the product for you. It does not come with a phono cartridge, just a headshell, but grab an ortofon, Nagaoka, or whatever is in youre price range and you'll be good to go. (This unit does have a universal headshell slot FYI so you can put whatever pre mounted set up you'd like) 5 stars all day! ... show more

  • Excellent Choice for a Turntable Upgrade
I've recently returned to listening to vinyl records and conservatively started out with the entry-level, budget friendly Audio Technica LP-120 USB turntable. However I quickly outgrew it. In my search for a new one, I did a lot of reading and found audiophile reviews praising the qualities and features of the Pioneer PLX-1000. It's built for DJ's yet has all the features loved by audiophiles. It's solid with very low vibration. In comparison to the AT LP-120, the PLX is much heavier AND quieter. The LP-120 is noisy. I instantaneously noticed there's more bass and it's deep, detailed and rich. The bass came alive. The LP-120 comes with a pre-amp and the PLX 1000 does not. The AT comes with a stock AT95E cartridge and head shell and the PLX provides a head shell but no cartridge. I actually didn't mind because I never used the AT95E cart and immediately upgraded to a Sumiko Pearl and Nagaoka MP-110. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Nagaoka 200 now that I have a table worthy of it. The RCA cables are attached to the AT LP-120 and removable on the PLX. When I bought my first component stereo system decades ago, direct drive turntables were favored and more expensive than belt driven. I had a belt driven because I couldn't afford the DD. Today, I personally don't want to deal with belts when switching from 33 to 45 or spend more $$$ for the automated feature. Which reminds me, the AT has a 78 but the PLX does not. If you're looking to upgrade your table, take a look at the Pioneer PLX 1000. ... show more

  • Solidly built, great sound
This is my second TT; I have another belt-driven, high-end unit. I wanted to try out a direct drive system without spending a mint for the newer Technics. The unit plays very well. Its weak point appears to be the tonearm bearing; it can arrive loose. Nonetheless, a great value for the money - I can’t think of a better turntable at this price point. I currently use it with an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge and I am quite satisfied. I’ve recommended this one to several friends looking to step up from cheaper turntables. It’s all the turntable that 99% of vinyl listeners will ever need. ... show more

  • Good servo/stepper motor. _NOT_ used for DJ'ing
It's well made and whichever servo/stepper motor they're using has very good torque, at least in context of a turntable. Using a 12bit magnetic encoder (AS5600) and an ESP32 I started the record from the outer perimeter and played it for ~30% of it's radius and I measured no significant loss. I couldn't figure out a reliable way to measure the loss after a pick up by a DJ (where it's measurable the most), but I imagine as a DJ you know if it's acceptable or not. At the risk of being a little rash, I've read that people have an alignment problem with the arm but I don't think they understand either how to adjust it and/or how its normal operating mechanics work. Regardless, after using a few adjustment videos, printing out a few adjustment templates on paper and a pretty good quality level (Starrett), I had this setup as perfect as my non-audiophile brain can rationalize. I do think it could/should be ~$150-200 cheaper. ... show more

  • Major Upgrade from Pro-Ject Debut Carbon
I had been using a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon with the 2M Red cartridge for about 4 years. When considering the upgrade I knew that I wanted a better cartridge than the 2M Red and a more robust unit to deal with people walking past the unit during parties and unwanted resonance in general. This unit is substantial weighting in at about 2x the weight of the Debut. I also liked that fact that this unit did not come with a built-in preamp or cartridge. I’m a tinkerer and like to constantly try new preamps and cartridges. I’m currently using a Yaqin Hybrid Tube preamp and an AT-VM540 cartridge. The sonic performance is night and day. Wow. What an upgrade. Now I’m going to try the AT 33PTG next, as I’ve never tried a moving coil cartridge before. I did consider other turntables at about 2x the price, however, that all came stock with cartridges I did not want, like the 2M blue or other lower grade cartridge, or did not have the mass of the PLX-1000. Great unit. I’m not a DJ! ... show more
