Description

Pilot Fountain Pen Cap less Fermo, Diamond Silver Body, F-Nib The Fermo pen from Pilot is a luxurious fountain pen with a very sleek and gorgeous design. Like the Cap less Decimo, the pen is part of a Japan exclusive line of retractable fountain pens. A simple twist mechanism keeps the fountain pen nib safe, there is no cap to unscrew or take off. It is one of the rare fountain pens that work using this mechanism, which means that the fountain pen nib is located near the clip rather than on the opposite side so that it can face up.

  • A pen that should be better known!
Style: Fine Color: Dark Green
I purchased the Fermo as I wanted an excellent pen for work, particularly in meetings (more on that later). As there is very little information about this pen, I would like to add in some Fermo specific details. Please note that I have fairly average sized male hands. References made with tip oriented down (bottom). Weight: 34 g overall. Upper barrel is 15 grams. Lower barrel is 13 g. Nib insert with half filled cartridge and metal cap is 6g. Typically, I have always likely a lighter pen, but I am not bothered by the weight of this one. It was, however, the first thing my wife noticed when handling it. (Her hands are only slightly smaller than mine). I’m not exactly certain of the material composition, but all structural components seem metal, including the textured nob at top. The only part of the internal plunger (that pushes don the nib when the nib is turned) that I can see is also metal. Center of gravity: A top heavy pen typically bothers me, and is also the reason I typically do not post the cap. This has less to do with weight, and more to do with where the weight is centered. It is true that the pen is slightly top heavy, but it actually has not bothered me. When the nib is retracted, the COG is almost exactly positioned at the two center rings (where the upper and lower barrel meet). When the nib is extended, the COG does move down about four mm to just below the “Pilot Fermo Japan” labeling. The 4mm make a substantial improvement for me. For this reason, I expect that individual hand size will greatly influence the suitability of this pen for each individual. The nib extends out ~7mm. The pinch point on the clip is about 19mm from the bottom of the barrel. The lower barrel is 76 mm long. The upper barrel is 65mm long. The screw type mechanism to extend the pen is all but silent, requiring a full 360° rotation to extend. There is spring resistance for the first ~300°, and it essentially requires two hands to twist open. I do easily close it with one hand as it only requires ~60° of rotation until the spring action takes over, and the nib zips inside. I have used a different fountain pen everyday for over a year at work, and found it slightly frustrating to be capping and uncapping during the meetings. This pen was a welcome relief, and a joy to write with! ... show more

Write smoothly, high quality. I can’t help reading and writing

  • Another winner!!!
Style: Medium Color: Diamond Silver
I Love Pilot capless fountain pens and there was no doubt I wouldn't love this new addition to my collection. The silver is sleek and professional. It feel comfortable in my hand. I write big so most of my fountain pen nibs are medium to stub. I bought this one with a medium nib. It wrote divine right out of the box. Unlike the Pilot Vanishing Point with it's clicker to dispense the nib, the Fermo takes one full turn on the end of the pen for the nib to come out. Smooth writer. Unfortunately mine didn't come with a converter and I was a little turned off by that, but I used the converter on one of my other vanishing points. However, if you prefer to use ink cartridges it comes with an empty ink cartridge which you can fill with your own ink and a metal cartridge cover. I will definitely buy more. ... show more

  • Practical and classy
Style: Fine Color: Dark Green
The nib on mine is really wet and smooth for how fine it is. I'd been using a Waterman Perspective in fine and even though it is broader, it writes less smoothly than this Fermo. In contrast to many reviewers I find it very natural to open this with one hand. My hands are probably above-average in size, but not huge. It quickly and easily opens using my thumb and pointer, and a thumb flick closes it. I bought the Fermo because I worried that the click-open mechanism would partially open by hitting the bottom of my shirt pocket, drying out the nib. That can't happen with the Fermo, and after finding that I can open the Fermo nearly as quickly as a clicker I was very happy to have picked it. Mine is dark green. The twist mechanism is a metallic, automotive-looking green and the barrel is glossy green pen lacquer. Seeing the pictures I worried that the top didn't seem to match the barrel, but in person it's clearly not meant to match and it looks better that way. I use my pen to document electronics repairs. I use Noodler X-feather on forms printed on cheap copy paper. My Waterman ink would need changed every few days regardless of how much I used it because it would start to dry and get skippy. The X-feather ink is bad about that in all of my other pens too, except this one! It's wetness combined with how easy it is to close when I'm pausing to think means that this pen runs empty without ever getting skippy. Mine didn't come with a converter. This can take the CON-40 and the recently discontinued CON-50. I've used both and prefer the 40, though it doesn't seem to hold as much ink. The X-feather ink sticks to the sides of my converters, except for the 40. Maybe it's lined with glass or something. This lets me see how much I have in there. The 40 has a smoother action too. When filling a converter the nib has to be able to be immersed about 1.5 inches. You have to keep an ink bottle full, or syringe ink into an ink sample vial or similar. I think the Fermo is probably the most practical fountain pen you can buy. It's obvious why the vanishing point pens are practical, but the Fermo won't partially open by accident and doesn't make any sound. ... show more

  • Personally feel Fermo is the best version of Pilot VP/Capless
Style: Fine Color: Black
I like the weight, came with a rhodium fine nib, it was not for me. I swapped it with my Pilot VP/Capless Decimo's medium nib and this combination works great with both Pilot Iroshizuku and Diamine inks. The Decimo is great (lighter) but I like the slightly heavier Fermo body.

  • Not worth the price
Style: Medium Color: Diamond Silver
I’m not sure if I got sent a faulty pen, but the ink flow comes in very low!!! I shook it a few times and ink comes out but it also splattered all over!!! I’ve bought jinhao pens that are better. I will contact pilot for a new nib or probably return it. The pros for this pen would be, beautiful made and has a good weight to it but other than that, I’m not too sure anymore. I have a vanishing pilot coming soon and I hope it does not have the same issue! ... show more
