  • Works wonders but it isn't a magic wand!!!
Size: One Dog
Works great for my dog. I was not a fan of "shock collars" as I was very uninformed on what they really are. If used properly they do not "shock" the dog. If used properly it is actually no different than you using a TENS unit, it is a stimulation not a shock. I will never use anything on or give anything to my dog that I have not tried myself, yes including food and treats. I put the unit on my arm to test it out. I slowly brought the levels up until I felt the stimulation in my arm. It was not painful at all. I have used TENS units for my back and it was no different. Now if I jacked it all the way up I am sure it would feel like a shock or at least it would be painful. That isn't how you use an e collar, you find the lowest level at which you dog reacts to it. My dog's reaction level was actually lower than what what it was on me. It's just high enough for them to be distracted by it, not inflicting pain. I love the fact that it also has tone, vibration and continuous stimulation, for up to 10 seconds. When I am training a new command, let's say sit, I will use the tone instead of a clicker. So I will teach my dog how to sit, each time he sits properly I tone then treat. My dog understand that when he sits, or whatever new command I am teaching, he hears the tone and a treat will follow. Once he understands what sit means in an undistracting environment then I willI take him into more distracting environments. In the distracting environments I will use the vibration function to hold his attention while giving a command. In these situations he has learned that when I give a command the way to get the vibration to stop is to perform the command. As soon as he performs the vibration stops then I tone and treat. I have never had to use the stimulation function on him. He now understands what is expected when he hears the command and feels the vibration. As to proper use of e collars, these are not magic, they will not help your dog learn any faster if not used correctly. Actually you can do more harm than good if you don't know what you are doing. Do some research online, talk to a trainer that utilizes them, read a book, watch lots of YouTube videos, etc. before you start using an e collar. The main thing to understand is that your dog needs to know the command BEFORE you start using the e collar. It will not do you, or the dog, any good to just tell them to sit while holding down the button. If they don't know what sit means the collar won't make them understand any faster. In fact it can actually do the opposite and create agression in your dog. So 99.9% of the failure is not the dog its the person improperly using an e collar. From other reviews I can bet that is the issue with a good portion of the bad reviews, in my opinion and I could be wrong. The distance for use is pretty good too. I am not sure exactly how far I have been from my dog but it was quite a distance. It works quite well for my needs as far as working distance goes. When you push the button on the remote the collar reacts instantly, there is no delay like I have seen in other e collars. I had another brand I ordered from Amazon, returned immediately, that there was about a one second delay between button push and collar reaction. Not with this unit, it is instant even at great distance. Any delay in reaction between remote and receiver can cause confusion for your dog when training. Overall I am very happy with this unit. It was a great price and very user friendly. It feels great in my hand and the collar fits my dog well. Additional collars are inexpensive if you need to replace or want to train two different dogs. This unit has the ability to have two collars synced to it. There is a switch so you can go back and forth. You can't use it on two collars at the exact same time, only one collar can be active at a time. Hope my review helped, thanks for reading! ... show more

  • Great collar

Would buy again

  • buy the extended warranty!
Size: One Dog
This collar was an invaluable training tool for my dog, and I recommend them to people often whenever i see their dogs misbehaving. I wish I had purchased the warranty because it seems that one part or another needs to be replaced every 3 or 4 months. The collar lasted us for 6months, before malfunctioning (Continuously vibrating for 5+ hours). What happened is that the plastic over the power button cracked open and moisture was allowed into the collar causing the malfunction. My poor dog was extremely apologetic and confused for a good 20 minutes before we figured out he was getting a constant vibration to the jugular. Even after turning the collar off, it continued a STRONG vibration for over 5 hours before it died... in conclusion, the battery life is Amazing. I went through one replacement remote. My first remote fell in a deep puddle and fried, dispite being water resistant. My only qualm with the remote design is that the giant power level dial on the remote constantly spins on in my pocket, making it easy to accidentally shock/vibrate/beep my dog when it is NOT necessary. SO, in conclusion... you get a pretty decent product for a decent price and for an extra $7.99 you should buy the warranty that covers replacement parts for the next three years. ... show more

  • Great collar for the money, but it is NOT waterproof!
Size: One Dog
I'm buying my third one because it won't work after my dog goes swimming with it on. I have even taped the charge covers and still breaks. I love everything else about it. Just need to take it off when my GSP goes swimming. They should update the waterproof claim. 6/14/23 Update: after writing this initial review, PetSpy followed up with me immediately and gave me a full refund since the purchase was within 1-year. Great customer service! Expect to receive my third one today. ... show more

  • Wouldn't buy again
Size: Two Dogs
The product works, it is not user friendly, has terrible battery life, and I am not sure about its ability to continually work in harsh environments. First the control for the strength of the stimulus is not notched. So the dial can turn freely so without looking at the control you have no idea if it is going to provide the desired stimulus. This is a terrible design. If you have ever trained a dog you know to properly use a shock collar you don't have time to stop and look at the remote. Second the buttons are counter intuitive with the stimulation on the top buttons and the tone and vibration on the bottom buttons. There is also no tactile feel as to which button you are pressing. The charging ports on the collars and control are not USB and are proprietary. Actually the charging connection port on the collar and control are different sizes so you can't charge both collars at the same time. And they both require a rubber stopper to maintain protection from the elements. My other collars have weather proof contacts on them and I feel that design is better. The only good thing is the price. they are cheap. These are not for a novice user and professionals won't use them for the reasons I mentioned above. ... show more

  • Best E-Collar I've Tried!
Size: One Dog
This is the best e-collar I've ever tried. I've tried 3 other brands and I don't like them as much as my dogs don't respond as well. I rarely ever have to use the shock function - the beep function works perfectly 99% of the time to get their attention and redirect them! 10/10 recommend! (I've actually purchased 3 of these collars as one died and then I got another dog. Never had an issue with them since that first collar died on me, but it was several years old.) ... show more
