    • With a bit of setup, this is a pretty great handheld
I have many gaming handhelds, and this is not the best one in terms of features or playability. However, it fills the important niche of being extremely portable. For me the killer app is that I can throw this thing in my pocket and take it anywhere. It’s about as thin as a new smart phone, and only slightly wider and taller than a credit card. The software is the weakest part of this device - the UI is terrible (and in Chinese by default), and emulation performance is bad out of the box. However there is an open source custom firmware solution called Minui that fixes it right up. NES, GB, GBC, and GBA performance are all great. SNES is unfortunately still a bit rough, with low-ish frame rates and sound issues, but still playable. Some people have mentioned playing PS1 games on this, and I laugh cynically at this suggestion. This is a system for 2D games. The controls feel fine, other than the shoulder buttons, which are a bit difficult to reach with your index fingers. The screen looks fine. It is small but vibrant. This is not a primary gaming device - again, there are much better and more performant devices out there - but this has pretty much everything beat if you’re looking for something with a good ratio of portability to playability. This is a good device if you have realistic expectations and know what you’re actually getting. If you’re looking for something to always have in your pocket for when you have 15 minutes of downtime, this is a good fit (once you put in the work to install better software).     • Disappointed no Atari ,Coleco, Intellivision, Oddyssey2, TRS-80 or older game emulators pre-enstalld
With 5K games I had simply assumed the Atari 7200 games would be on here with maybe the some of the old Coleco and Intellivision games as well if I was lucky but unfortunately those games were not on here which seems strange as this is a retro game system. Easy to understand that more obscure systems like TurboGrafx-16 (678 games), Casio Loopy (10 games) or Sega SG-1000 (60 games) weren't on here but I feel like the 2600, 5200 and 7200 games should have been a slam dunk to be on the device. Still a 5 star system with very nice buttons , EASILY worth a purchase. ... show more
