  • It's good.
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
I like the high calorie count when compared to Mountain House and that it uses less water. Less water means less water resupply runs, and quicker boiling (less fuel use). They taste great too.

  • Not to bad...
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
I would recommend it. The only thing I thought is the meat didn't rehydrated very well. But may be i didn't add enough water or it wasn't hot enough or i didn't wait long enough. But still tasted good..

  • Flavor
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
Love Peak meals. The flavor is a cut above other freeze dried meals. After a long day on the trail, a warm yummy meal is important.

when I first tasted it it was a bit bland, I put some salt in it and it tasted better.

  • MRE
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
Arrived in timely manner. Secure packaging. Taste like my first MRE from the Marines with it first came out. Good enough product for dry camping.

  • Good flavor, odd texture
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
I tried this out in my last backpacking trip. The portion size was large enough to fill me up for the night and the flavor was spot on. The texture of the beef crumbles was very odd, however. I let this sit for a good long while and the beef never softened. It was like eating pasta with beef croutons. Strangest thing. I wouldn’t say it was unpleasant but it was definitely something to get used to. For the amount of protein in this, I’d say it’s worth trying, as it really was tasty. Just be ready for some crunch in your pasta. ... show more

  • Would have been better without the weird "beef" in it.
Style: 2 Serving Pouch
I've tried a variety of the freeze-dried type of camping meals in the last year. This beef pasta marinara scored very high in my book for both getting things right, and getting things wrong. The portion size that comes in the bag is pretty decent. Let's be real here though, saying that one serving size is only half the bag is a lie, and everyone knows it. No one is eating just half the bag after a day of hiking. Peak Refuel probably felt the need to say that considering the amount of saturated fat (32g per package = 160% of Recommended Daily Value, but saying you're only supposed to eat half brings that down to 80%) in this recipe. Well, whatever. The "sauce" tasted good, and the noodles were probably some of the best I've had in any freeze-dried food ever. And it looks like they got the cooking time and amount of water correct too, because when I opened it up everything looked right and there was just a tiny bit of excess water in the bottom of the packet. But then again, maybe not. I don't know what is going on with the beef crumbles they have in this, but I've never tasted beef that was squishy and crunchy at the same time. Even after sealing the packet back up and letting it sit for another 10 minutes like I normally have to do with anything Mountain House, the beef was still just WEIRD. You bite down on a beef crumble and it gives like meat normally would, and then it goes CRUNCH. I get that freeze-drying changes food, but that's a new one for me. Most other brands I have tried give weird amounts for the time and water needed (355ml? No one is packing a graduated cylinder in their ruck!) but usually through trial and error you can figure out the right way to cook it properly. Peak Refuel, on the other hand, gave very simple directions (8 oz boiling water for 10 minutes) but I don't think any sort of fuzzing with those numbers can fix what's going on with the meat in this. I get the idea of wanting to have some sort of protein in a dish, but in this case I think they might be better off just eliminating the beef crumbles and redoing it as just Pasta Marinara. It would taste great, provide a good amount of calories, and not leave you wondering if the ingredients are accurate. ... show more
