  • 37. Hellishly heavenly
Released a few months after the sublime "Born to die", "Paradise" enhanced the mystery about pop's dark angel, better known as Lana Del Rey. Deeper, darker and dirtier than its predecessor, the EP consists of 8 tracks, each of them utterly mesmerising and addictive, making this a perfect companion to her glorious debut. 3 of the songs were breathtakingly visualised for her "Tropico" short film, a project based on the Biblical story of sin and redemption, a truly masterful way of closing out the "Born to die" chapter. Epic first single "Ride", the legendary "Cola" and the seductive "Gods and monsters" are arguably the highlights on here, perfect examples of how pop music should be like. But the absolute standout track on here is the cinematic "Body electric", a euphoric, Bond-esque ode with compelling lyrics and a matching melody, inspired by the same-titled poem of American poet Walt Whitman (whom she does not fail to mention in the lyrics). "And I will show that nothing can happen more beautiful than death", he writes on "Starting from Paumanok". Listening to these songs feels exactly as if death is the only salvation from the troubles of one's mortal existence. With "Ultraviolence", a diverse, slow-burner of an album, Lana Del Rey proved that she is an adamant artist. With "Paradise" she showed her artistic intentions. Her "Paradise" feels more like "Paradise lost". But it is heavenly, nevertheless. ... show more

  • !SERIOUS POP!
Lets face it. Lana is definitely an acquired tastes. For me she has now become a required taste. First there was Joni Mitchell, then Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Adele, and now for this generation Lana Del Rey. Yes, she is that good! This album like all of her other work is atmospheric, almost like one long song per album, and that can also be part of the problem sometimes. She really doesn't have a distinctive hit. She does however have a distinctive sound. This album of course is rated a buy. It is nice, and flat with no warps, or defects to speak of. That's accomplishment in itself nowadays. It's !Serious Pop! ... show more

  • Good but came slightly damaged but kinda excpected
I had been wanting this album on vinyl for a while and so I had a bit of extra money I was excited to get this. The cover sleeve it came in was fine but the inner white sleeve had a rip in the side and the record was sticking out. this ended up getting a bunch of white paper particles on my record and I was disappointed. This was an original pressing so it's about 9 years old and so I understand why it may have a few unperfected things but it's still something to take into consideration. Lana always does very well on the pressings of her albums & just like the others this one was spectacular!! i had 0 problems with the sound quality at all. I was disappointed that burning desire wasn't included but that's my fault for not looking into it better. Overall the album is amazing!! the quality of the record its self is great, the paper sleeve was ripped but other than that it was good. ... show more

  • Lana's Paradise - Great EP!!
Less songs than a regular LP, I feel is the real strength of Lana's Paradise EP. All of the songs seem to connect since there's only 8 songs, but these are really good 8 songs! My favorites - American, Ride, God & Monsters and Cola. Least favorite is 'Blue Velvet', however, I don't mind hearing it. Lana states that this is a companion piece to 'Born To Die (BTD)', however, in my opinion, BTD is a bit more 'pop' compared to 'Paradise', and I actually prefer this record over BTD. So do yourself a favor and buy the record, put it on the turntable, dim the lights and let Lana take you into her Paradise! ... show more

  • Powerful Music for listeners of any age
As a 63 year old guy, I'm confident that I am not in Lana Del Rey's "target audience". However, I really have enjoyed listening to her music. The music, the rhythms, the lyrics, all combine to make an old Beatles fan like me listen to her work on a regular basis. I, personally, don't believe the explicit lyrics she sometimes uses is needed for her music to be as powerful as it is, but that's my only criticism. Her music is, indeed, powerful. I hope that her sometimes dark lyrics and the occasional news stories I've heard about her wishing she were dead does NOT mean she is on a self destructive course in her life. As much talent as she has and all of the good things that have come her way and will come her way, it would be a crying shame if she were ultimately unhappy to the point that she can't take it anymore. If she is on that downward road, hopefully, she will have some one close to her that will get her the help she needs. As a fan of her music, I want to hear much more of it. ... show more
