  • For puzzle fans!
Style: 0.7MM
My wife and I are New York Times crossword puzzle addicts and we like to do them in pencil (I often have to correct my wife's entries....:). We went through a ton of the "buy a dozen and throw away' type but the erasers gave out long before the lead did. We have a clipboard for the crosswords and just clip the mechanical pencil to the board to pass it back and forth. With the boat motion, it often winds up on the floor. We had bought the cheaper version of this pencil but found that the plastic clip did not withstand the rigors of boat life. This model has a metal clip, lots of lead and, most importantly, an eraser that can be replenished just by twisting the top - it raises the long eraser higher as it wears away. The grip has rubber cushioning and is very comfortable for long puzzle solving, it's the perfect mechanical pencil for us. One more thing, we prefer the 0.7mm lead vs the 0.5mm because we've found the 0.7mm lead to be more durable, breaks less and produces a blacker line with less effort and with no tearing of the paper as we found sometimes happens with thinner lead, especially if you do the puzzle in the newspaper instead of printing it out on the computer. The included eraser removes all traces of the lead when "the other person" makes a mistake. ... show more

  • Looking for a mechanical pencil that actually lasts? Look no further.
Style: 0.7MM
First and foremost, this is THE best mechanical pencil I have ever used in my life, hands down. I am not kidding when I tell you that this is the only mechanical pencil that I plan on purchasing for the next four years of my undergrad. It is just that good. Compared to other mechanical pencils, the Papermate Clearpoint Elite is much more durable. Its metal parts prevent the pencil from snapping easily and its feel is like that of a quality pen. The eraser located at the top is also better because it doesn't retract easily, which is something I did not like about the regular Papermate Clearpoint mechanical pencils. The pencil is slimmer compared to its regular version and is overall fantastic. Now, I'm not someone who usually writes reviews, but this was one thing I could not pass up. I love this mechanical pencil and I highly recommend it. I like to keep things simple, meaning that you will usually find me with nothing more than a mechanical pencil, a pen, a highlighter, and a bar eraser. For this reason, I was absolutely ecstatic when I came across the Papermate Elite Clearpoint mechanical pencil. If you're looking for a writing utensil that will actually last, this is the one! ... show more

  • My favorite mechanical pencils!
Style: 0.7MM
I write with my left hand and like larger sized pencils. The pack I received contained both a red and a gray colored Paper Mate Clear Point Elite mechanical pencil, along with two spare eraser refills and a case of 0.7mm lead. The rubber texture feels much better and is more durable as compared to its non-Elite cousins. Other areas where the Elite version has improved are the twisting of the eraser and the removal of the eraser cap. The eraser stays in place much better and will not twist back into the eraser cap as easily. The eraser cap also stays put much better and will not fly off when flipping the pencil over to use the eraser. It is possible to clean the mechanical pencil by using a wet wipe to remove the graphite stains that accumulate on the rubber over time. Please note not to attempt to remove the button that advances the lead; otherwise, this may damage the part and render the mechanical pencil useless. I find that this mechanical pencil also uses lead down to a smaller bit compared to some of the other standard mechanical pencils that I have used. Reasons you may want to use this mechanical pencil are: Comfort + Long lasting large eraser + Larger lead reservoir + and reduced lead breakage + efficient lead usage. ... show more

  • Best Mechanical Pencil
Style: 0.7MM
I am an architect who is very particular about mechanical pencils. The Paper Mate Clear Point Elite is the most durable and comfortable all-purpose pencil I have used. The Elite is far better than the all-plastic standard version. The metal tip is superior, the side click advance works well and the eraser advances easily and doesn’t slip into retraction while erasing as does the standard version. The Pentel mechanical pencil is better for drafting because of the tip but not as good as the Paper Mate Elite for general writing and drawing. I like the .7 mm with a soft B lead. I wish PaperMate would offer the Elite in a .9 mm version. They offer a.9 mm lead pencil in the standard version, but not the Elite. If they did, I would buy that as well. ... show more

  • great pencil, bummer on color choice
Style: 0.7MM
I bought this set of pencils because I had the same brand/model from years ago that still work well. I saw in the reviews that people were getting colors other than the ones shown, so I knew it was a crap shoot as far as what I would get, but I still hoped for the blue and green. I got two colors I don't particularly like. Still, they are very good pencils that work well and last. They lost one star for me because there was no way to choose the color. ... show more

The best mechanical pencil I've ever used. Highly recommend!

  • MY FAVORITE MECHANICAL PENCIL
Style: 0.7MM
So I've had these for several years, went through multiple as I lost them but that's my own fault, but I LOVE these pencils. I have gone through multiple mechanical pencils trying to find the perfect one as I write a lot for school. These are great as they have a long included eraser so you don't have to replace it often and you can write without worrying about the lead moving or breaking. These are wayyy better than the original Clearpoints, the Clearpoint Elites are more comfortable to hold, smoother, and look more professional. As a person who holds their pencil weird and too hard, I would get a severe callus on the side of my finger. However, these alleviate that and I rarely get a callus unless I'm writing my hand off. The product came on time and was not damaged. ... show more
