  • Sounds great
Sounds great.

  • Good first piccolo
Good piccolo for a high school student or marching band. I'll be keeping it as a backup. Calling this a "professional" piccolo is overkill. The material is plastic (resin) -- which is good, but not "space age" or "wood". My $1000 Pearl resin piccolo is easier to play and has a better tone. But this inexpensive piccolo plays well enough and is reasonably in tune. The pads seal well and all the notes come out okay. You'll need a piccolo size cleaning swab. The microfiber cloth is much too big for the inside. It will work fine for wiping off fingerprints from the outside. The cleaning rod is tan colored plastic made to look like wood. Plastic is fine for a cleaning rod. The case looks good from the outside, but the A flat key ends up touching the head joint. Not the best fit. My only complaint is that the description and title of the piccolo make it sound nicer than it actually is. It's still a student level piccolo at a student level price. ... show more

  • Overall great piccolo
Honestly if you get lucky and the piccolo is not damaged it works just great. I would recommend using this for marching band instead of concert as tone isn't the best but it is acceptable. Overall great piccolo, definitely would recommend if you are a beginner so you can just have it to noodle around or for marching band. ... show more

  • Great Sound but Faulty Mechanism
This piccolo sounded great! I did not wanted to return it but sadly it became extremely hard to play. Fast passages became increasingly difficult to execute and at first I blamed myself for lack of practice. However, after careful inspection I noticed that some keys were not closing appropriately and I had to press them very hard to accomplish fast passages. It seems like the padding was shrinking as I kept playing because at first it sounded very nice and I had no problems. This piccolo is very nice and if you are lucky enough not to get a faulty one then you'll have a good experience. ... show more

  • Piccolo Plays Very Well, and Has a Beautiful Tone to it

  • Cheap, definitely not professional
*This should not be used as a beginner piccolo. If you're a beginner, I would recommend purchasing a silver piccolo from a trusted brand such as Yamaha as they are the easiest to play when transferring from flute to picc. If you're collegiate or looking for a real “professional” piccolo, please purchase a grenadilla wood picc as they sound much better in wind ensemble/orchestral environments. Great brands include Powell, Burkart, Pearl, and Trevor James. I'm not a fan of composite piccolos, but I do know that this is incomparable to other composites. I tested this against 20+ year old composite piccs and this one had a horrendous tone and extremely clanky keys and somehow played worse than those old piccolos. Along with that, the traditional fingering for Bb does not work with this piccolo (on the one that I received), which makes using thumb Bb a must for all students and playing chromatically really difficult. This was obviously made in a cheap environment, but that's also what you get for paying so little, decent composites start at least $500 and professional wood piccolos can be $2K-$10K. ... show more

  • Five Stars
Small and compact but a great Wood Piccolo.

  • Perfect for marching band.
My son states says the piccolo is quite adequate for using outdoors in the marching band performances where he's less willing to take his much more professional grade instruments. The tone is good and the keys and mechanisms are well constructed, requiring no maintenance so far. Overall for the price, for a beginner through intermediate player, or marching band this is ideal. ... show more
