Smell: I had it unwrapped and in my house for two months and my whole house stunk. Now that I've been sleeping on it, I think my nose has mostly gotten used to it. Granted, I can still smell the new car smell of my father's Honda Accord about 7 years later, and he always parks his outdoors and has been affected by mild sun for all of those 7 years. So perhaps my sense of smell is a bit stronger than normal. Also, one of the houses I own had a smell that caused me to feel sick to my stomach with worry, but I brought a contractor to check it out and he said that it's basically completely expected for a house that doesn't have open windows to smell this way. The solution was to open the windows and have someone actually live in it. The first night I slept on it, I think that my body was adapting, and I had a one-off night of fluid-filled lungs. The second day was less severe and I wasn't regularly having to clear out the fluid. Feel: It does feel a lot like a metal spring mattress. It doesn't have the isolation that the spine-pinching soft mattresses have. But why the heck would I care about that when my back pain gives me nausea and keeps me from sleeping in the first place? I've actually slept on a firmer and more expensive metal spring mattress which I prefer over this one. But this one can ship to my door without costing me an arm and a leg, so whatever. It's easy to get off of the bed because I'm not sunk into it. It's strange not to constantly switch places on the mattress in order to re-distribute my body over worn-out portions of a normal soft foam mattress. I hope it stays that way. In this past two weeks of use, I have noticed a bit of an improvement. It's not going to keep me from spending 6 of my 7 weekly days in bed, but maybe it'll continue to improve? I'll attempt to update the review if my spine allows me to live my life more normally again. Otherwise, just presume that this mattress wasn't the cure-all to a burst spinal disc. ... show more

I highly recommend this mattress (my cat approved it too 😆). Before, I used a memory foam bed which was too soft for me and made my neck stiff when I woke up. Since the first time using this mattress, I no longer felt uncomfortable around my neck. This one is firm but not hard as a rock and breathable. I did not wake up during the night due to the heat on my back anymore. If you sit down on its edge, you may feel sinking slightly, but I used this only to sleep, so I have no complaint. I really appreciate this mattress; it is affordable and fits my needs. I do not recommend it for people who prefer softness. ... show more

So it firm. Which I like. I’ve had it over a week now and it has soften a little. It did have a smell but was gone within 24 hrs. It only got to 10 1/2 in tall. Not 12. But overall it’s ok. If you are really looking for FIRM . This is it.

I’ve been sleeping on this a little over a week. I had failed to note this one does NOT need a 24-48 hour expansion period. I was delighted to learn that. Firm and soft are relative terms. Some claim this one feels like sleeping on stone. As one who has sought out firm or very firm mattresses for over 50 years, this one feels firm, and appropriately so. Will see about longevity. But early indications are very favorable. UPDATE: after sixty or so nights of use the mattress has been relegated to the rarely used guest room and replaced by a firm mattress from a local bedding store. My original appraisal of this mattress as firm is updated to not-really-firm. I do not believe the mattress changed; rather that I had been in a guest status for several months and lost my baseline for the support my back requires. I do maintain that this is a quality product.
