  • Works very well!
This tool is easy to use. I had to remove a bad plastic power steering pulley and install a new metal pulley wheel (Dorman 300-010) after market substitute on my 2006 Ford F150 4.2L pickup. The correct installer has an 8mm metric thread and this one fit it perfectly. The important thing to realize is that the tensile strength of an 8mm screw is limited. You also need to understand that most manufacturers maintain a tight tolerance for an interference (AKA friction) fit. That means it is up to the end user to get adjust the hole size in the wheel to provide a good interference fit that isn't too tight for the installer to pull on. It's very likely the pulley wheel will be too tight from the manufacturer. A Dremel tool with a cylindrical grinding attachment works well for making this adjustment. Understand that the adjustment is on the order of one ten thousandth of an inch. that's roughly 1/10th the thickness of a sheet of paper. But remember, you will only need to remove half of that thickness around the entire inside diameter to arrive at that total because your effort doubles across the diameter. So a bit of light grinding is all it requires. How can you tell if you have removed just enough or too little? That's easy. in the absence of a very accurate inside micrometer, just try pushing the wheel on by hand to start with. If it goes on to the main shaft about 1/8" - 3/16" with a firm push, you are probably close to what you want. Remember the end of the shaft is slightly tapered in most cases to assist in getting the alignment right. That part doesn't count. The interference fit needs to be very tight but not ridiculously so. If it is too tight, you stand a good chance of breaking the 8mm screw on the installer tool. This tool is very high quality high carbon steel. But it will break if you exceed its tensile strength! It probably won't twist off, it will simply snap once the tensile strength is exceeded. If you can't turn the screw with a moderate amount of force, the pulley is too tight. You need to remove it using the puller, ream it out a little more, and try again. You might wonder why the wheel is not a perfect fit. Consider the manufacturing process for the pump shaft. The answer is that with any manufacturing process there is a +/- tolerance percentage involved. You can't predict what the manufacturer's QC is on any given day. All you can do is allow for the smallest expected shaft size and provide a part that meets the required standard tolerance variations. It's the mechanics job to tweak the replacement part to fit. To all of the negative reviewers of this tool, I would say that it's just a misunderstanding of how to use the tool and what a professional mechanic is expected to know. This is a high quality tool, meant to operate correctly with proper usage. If you exceed the tolerance of the tool by using it incorrectly, any tool will break. For example, even a high quality socket wrench will break if you over torque it. This is why equipment manuals specify torque limits for bolts and screws they use. ... show more

  • You dont want a cheap tool that will fail on you at 10:00 at night
There are few worse feelings than working on your car late at night, when the parts stores are closed and you have a tool fail on you- and you have to drive to work in the morning. I got tired of cheap tools and spent 2X on this kit. The tool arrives bone dry so make sure to oil it before use, it will make the job go faster and keep your tool in good working order for the next generation to use. ... show more

  • Works as intended
Works great. Could be better but for the price it works great no need to buy the snap on branded puller and the installer works great

  • Got the job done
I used this to remove a power steering pulley that had been in place for 30 years. It got the job done but it took some damage. The center bolt head that you crank to remove the pulley started rounding a bit. I’m not surprised though. It was so hard to get off I thought I was doing something wrong at first. ... show more

  • Good tool -Fair Price
Worked very well. Made my power steering pump replacement easy. The tool removed the p/s pump pulley with little effort and just as easy installing pulley on new pump. The individual pieces in thy e kit appear to be well made. Blow molded case fits nicely into tool box. This is the 5th OTC tool I’ve purchased, I’m happy with their stuff. I’m not a pro and don’t have easy access to a tool truck, OTC seems to be on par with tool truck quality. ... show more

  • Perfect Set for the DIY Mechanic
Purchased this set after much debate over the KD and Lisle sets which costs around the same amount, give a take a couple of dollars. I'm quite happy with my decision, the set is well made and simple, yet includes everything I've needed to service my two GM trucks so far. While I've only used it a couple of times so far, I expect this set to last a long time. The only part of the set that feels cheap is the case, but there is really no surprise there, that is to be expected at this price point, at least it has a case. While it doesn't come with instructions there is a sticker under the top foam that gives thread and usage information for the pieces. The only disappointment is that it not made in the USA but rather Taiwan, but that's sadly not surprising anymore, even some of my more recent Craftsman purchases say made in China on them. ... show more

  • Almost teenager proof
I'm currently working on my 83 6.2l K20 Chevy. After removing the power steering pump I discovered a small hole on the back side of the the resovor. I could have brazed the hole closed but being that the pump itself was the original and had been intermittently acting up I decided to replace it instead of rebuilding it. Knowing that a new pump normally does not come with the pully. I went to both of the local automotive store's that loan tools to get a puller. Both stores pullers were trashed and IMHO would have cause me more frustration trying to get it to work than it was worth. So, off to Amazon prime and I order my own puller. In a past chapter of my life I use to put food on the table by wrenching for a living. I have used and abused all the big named tools. I find OTC tools to be high quality and they do stand up to the rigors of a busy automotive garage. Yeah, for the average weekend wrencher they are moderately expensive and you could buy a cheaper tool. But, will the cheaper tool stand up to the abuse that your teenage child or grandchild going to throw at it. Of course they're not going to tell you that they broke your cheap tool, but let you find out the next time you need it. So, back to the store to buy another cheap tool. When you could have spent the extra few bucks now on a good quality tool and avoided the frustration. ... show more

  • Perfect for GM power steering pulley!
This tool did what many others couldn’t. I have been stuck installing a psp on an 02 Corvette. Any tool I rented broke, cheaper versions bent. I this one got the job done the first try and all the parts look just like they did coming out of the box.
