My 7 year old saved money for one of these. He was so excited to play it when it arrived. It needed AAA batteries but luckily we keep some in stock here at home. The toy is perfect size for his little fingers. Overall a fun instrument that can at times be annoying to others listening but it was nice to see my son enjoy such a funny little toy. I had wanted a lil gudetama version of this instrument for about 7 years or so and I finally got my hands on it! I love the sound and how you can adjust the pitch from high medium or low! I wish that it was more musician friendly and had scales and explained the tone better. The speaker is the wonkiest part about the instrument its very low quality in terms of sound and the fret board needs to be pressed down relatively hard, but its more of something to get used to than anything. I think the instrument has a lot of potential and requires a lot of practice to perfect to get a clear pitch and sound. However this lil guy is brilliant! It takes some patience and maybe it needs some updated features like a more sensitive fret board and better speakers, but otherwise I love my lil friend. I had no idea an Otamatone could bring so much joy to a child. I purchased two, one "kirby" and the other Sanrio Gudetama. Both my 9yo grand daughter and 10 yo grand son were so excited. The sound is not so loud as to drive the parents crazy, and fun enough to keep them busy playing along with their favorite songs or making up their own silly songs.
