When I first opened the box, I was greeted with a lovely smile from the clean, colorful, Unicorn Otamatone. The cuteness of it instantly drove me to the basement, frantically digging for three AAA batteries to make the beautiful machine come alive. Running back upstairs, screw driver in one hand and the batteries in the other, I swiftly unscrewed the small panel holding nothing but a slot for the batteries. Though I did struggle with putting the batteries in the right way, (which is a me problem) when it was done I hastily screwed the panel back on. Now sliding the switches on the back to achieve my desired range and volume, I squeezed the sides of the mouth and saw the Otamatone look something like this: :O. I was overcome by joy as my left hand went to press on the slider, but when I pressed down something came over me. The sweetest, most glorious sound came out of the Otamatone's mouth that I could not help but play more. I sat for around 2 hours, pressing the highest notes in my siblings face and the lowest in my cats. In all seriousness though, this product is a great gift for anyone who enjoys creating music or anyone who doesn't; it's a fun gift for anyone who receives it. In case anyone was wondering what exactly the Otamatone sounds like, it is a similar sound to an electric kazoo except more beautiful. The only downside to this product is that it does not include batteries, but I am sure this is said somewhere in the description. ... show more

    • Fun and cute, but pricey for what you get

Both of my kids got one of these for Christmas, and they're definitely fun. They have pretty good sound and the volume can be adjusted from low to high. I noticed that you have to press a bit hard to get it to produce sound. I thought it didn't work at first because my kids and I were using a light touch. A little hard for my youngest, but she likes it after getting the hang of it. I imagine that with a LOT of practice, you could get good enough to actually play a song with it like shown in the videos I've seen, but it is definitely not as easy as it looks. I paid about $40 each for them, and after seeing them in action, I wouldn't buy them again at that price. They are cute and fun, but overall, I don't think they're worth the price. ... show more

I got this for my 6 year old daughter. She played with it for a minute and then was done. It needs to come with a music book and the notes need to be marked. There’s no way she can easily figure out how to play a song.
