DO NOT BUY!!!! Our cats have been on Orijen for many years and I have told everyone that this is one of the best foods on the market. We received our first bag of the "new recipe" Kentucky made and it made out cats very ill! Vomiting, Diarrhea and just very listless. One of our cats has CKD and she had to go to the emergency vet. The vets were puzzled so she (our cat) went to the vet school and we spoke with several veterinary nutritionists and this food was determined to be the cause.     • My cat almost died

We bought this brand 3 times, trying to get our 3 cats on a better diet. One of our cats health declined slowly over the 3 bags. We never put 2 and 2 together. Long story short, after ER visit, peeing blood, many regular vet visits, peeing all over our stuff, not being able to poop for a week, many-many tests, stress for everyone in our house, we figured out it was the food. As soon as his vet changed him to Royal Canin, within days our boy started getting better. I didn’t want to believe a food with such good reviews and 70.00 a big bag would be bad for some cats. We threw out about 50.00 worth of what we had left. Be careful, read all reviews, maybe don’t buy your pets food from unknown sources and remember cats are very sensitive and any little change can be life or death. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The quality of the cat food that I purchase became of great importance to me after I lost my first cat to a disease that my vet said was triggered by, and worsened by, the cat food I was feeding him (Fancy Feast). So I begin doing research on what cats really need in their diet and the backgrounds and production of various cat foods on the market. Of everything I found, this brand “Orijen” always seemed to make the top five list of healthiest and most nutritious cat foods made with the highest quality ingredients as well as the best sourcing and production practices. Admittedly, there was another brand that was above ‘Orijen’ in these categories that I wanted to give my cats...but cats are picky, and they did not care for that brand too much...so I went to my second choice, which was ‘Orijen’. Ever since trying Orijen’s ‘Cat & Kitten’, we have never found another “go-to” food for the cats. They truly love this stuff. And as you can see in the video, I once got a bag home and (even though they had eaten that morning) they were more than happy to tear the bag open before I could even get to it. (usually I keep the cat food stored away in a cupboard). If you’re looking for a fragrant, dry food to attract your cats’ attention, this is definitely a go-to. Even with my human nose, as soon as I open the bag I can smell a powerful scent of cat food; it’s not an unpleasant smell, but it is certainly strong enough that a cat will know that the food is there. As my cats’ responsible human, I am happy with this food because it is responsibly sourced with cat’s health and humane practices in mind. More specifically, it is made of 85% animal ingredients including free-run chicken/turkey, wild-caught herring/flounder/sardines, and cage-free eggs; and 2/3 of their animal ingredients are “fresh or raw”. I am also encouraged by the fact that the first 16 ingredients listed on the bag are all whole animal sources; no fillers, supplements, fruits, veggies, or mysterious compounds. Additionally, taurine, which you must be wary of in cat food since it can be found in high quantities (particularly in low quality, high protein) cat food and cause health disorders in your pet, is found as a respectably small percentage of this food. I only wish that Orijen made wet cat food, since making sure cats get enough water is a very important thing. I did try to put some water on their dry food, but they didn’t like that. My answer to that was to buy a motion sensitive water dispenser, and buy them canned cat food on occasion from another respectable brand. With regard to price, yes it is rather expensive for a cat food. And getting used to it did take some time. However, after being told that I lost my first cat because of the low quality of the cat food I was feeding him (and I had no idea!), the peace of mind I get now from knowing that I am feeding my cats a properly nutritious food is priceless. Overall I am very happy with the brand and this flavor, and as you can see in the video and the picture of the damage done to the bag before I could open it and the cats are also very happy with it.     • Only dry food our "toothless" cat likes ...

We had a stray adopt us. It took almost a year before she would allow you to touch her, almost two years before she would come inside our home, and almost four years before she could be picked up. She is an incredible "mouser" and "ratter" and keeps the rodent population in check. All of this outside living took a toll on her teeth. She got to a point where she weighed less than 5 pounds and could no longer hunt or eat. When we got her to the vet she had multiple impacted/infected/broken teeth. Because she did such a great job keeping the rodents at bay, we paid the money for the teeth removal. This cat food, along with Science Diet "pâté" (prescription only) cat food saved our cat's life. Now a few years later ... and a lot more plump ... the stray we named "Slinky" because of the way she "slinked" around the house, still loves this food. She has only four little teeth left, yet she still hunts and eats rodents (how we do not know), but the only dry food she will only eat is Orijen Cat and Kitten. For some weird reason, this is the ONLY food my Siamese will eat. After many trial and error processes, her stomach tolerates this well, she would throw up other brands immediately after eating. I felt like a bad cat mom... She is a rescue and a little small for her breed. I adopted her at 2.2lbs. She is now a hearty 7lbs because of this food. She was In poor health and I had to get weight on her before I could help her with everything else. Her poor ears were damaged from hematoma formation, probably immediately after birth and whoever had her before me never bothered to fix the problem. So she is now left with scarring. She can hear, she’s a typical LOUD conversational opinionated Siamese who thinks she’s the boss... I love her to death. Best adoption ever. ... show more

My cat ate this food for over a year just fine. They recently moved production to Kentucky. When we switched her to the new bag of food, she started getting struvite crystals. If you're a continuous user and want to buy a new bag, don't go for the 12lb right away; make sure your cat is OK with the new product by testing a smaller, cheaper size first. ... show more
