    • Assembly was hard - but worth it

Assembly took over 20 hours and it was an exhausting nerve-wracking experience. Every bolt presented another challenge. I broke 2 plastic parts during assembly, and customer service was very helpful and responsive through their chat system. I lost one spacer, and although there were many spare nuts and bolts - I had to make a fake spacer out of washers and superglue. After assembly, I plugged it in and nothing happened. Customer service had me open the power supply to check the fuse - and I found the power wires weren't connected properly, an easy fix. Setup and final adjustments went quickly. It is now printing most of the time, and turning into a true workhorse. It is the printer to have if you want to print something. ... show more

Lets start from the top. A. To anyone who bought this and complained about putting it together, just don't. This was a fun kit to build. It was like getting a leggo kit for a 12 year old and I giggled reading the instruction manual. Don't worry, I won't spoil the fun for anyone new buying but you definitely will smile. B. Probably the single most reliable printer I've ever owned. Scratch that... Definitely the most reliable printer I've ever owned. I've been using this for a month and done very little in the way of upgrades outside of a new nozzle and build plate. Only print fails I've had have been due to slicer/user errror issues. And even those were easy to fix once I figured out what I did wrong. C. Full metal hotend with a nozzle upgrade is *Chefs Kiss*. Can print most anything your heart desires and reliably too! D. Auto Bed levelling. Some people say its trash but they're wrong as can be. You can change the autobed levelling to 7 points which makes a huge array of points levelled by the PINDA sensor and honestly I've never had a base layer issue that wasn't caused by me. Just calibrate, change the offset to where it needs to be with the twist of a knob and BAM, calibrated for good. D. No it's not a BAMBU labs print speed but it does have a stealth mode which is super nice for those of us that have limited space and need this printer in a spot where people exist. It's way quieter than any other FDM printer I own cuz of a single switch in settings. E. Upgradeable. It's July 2023 which means prusa's MMU3 is about to drop and even if that weren't my next upgrade, I'd still be able to upgrade any other part of this printer with kits online. Why? Cuz I built it and the kits are easy to find. F. Just buy it. ... show more

Never had a 3D printer before, so if you're looking for a super technical review then I won't be able to help. But... For a first time user, it really wasn't bad to build, about 10 hours in total. Instructions are good. Tools that come with it are not. Having the proper tools would have saved me a ton of time. Then after initial calibration... It's basically been running non-stop (Literally). Running just fine with PLA (Haven't tested other materials yet), overall no complaints. A few failed prints but I'm willing to bet that's more me not knowing the limits of a 3D printer than actual faults of the printer (Who knew you couldn't print plastic on thin air and expect it to stay there?) The display is... Dated to say the least (Looks like a LCD display from 20 years ago) but that's not a big deal. And considering that's the biggest gripe I have with the printer... Very happy with it overall. Although the display is dated, Prusa's slicing software is not... And even for a complete novice like me it's really easy to use and tweak. And the auto bed leveling is so nice, did one calibration when setting it up and it's been printing fine without any tweaking ever since. And the best part is... Down the line if part of the printer breaks... Most of it you can just 3D print, and Prusa will give you the gcode to do it. So you can literally have spares of every (plastic) part just sitting around in a box somewhere and it'd cost you next to nothing. And most of it... Is plastic. ... show more

    • Print quality is garbage

I’ve owned 2 other 3D printers before this; one of them was great but had the lifespan of a housefly and the other was DOA. So, I figured at nearly $1000 the Prusa, coming from Eastern Europe and not China, would be the 3D printer for me. Nope. It came as a kit, which means hundreds of bolts, nuts, plastic and metal pieces in a box. And, if I were rating the kit, it would get a 9+/10. Every piece was in a labeled bag and the book that directed the build is gorgeous. Assembling this device is slightly difficult because it’s a bit fiddly: I’d give it a 7/10 difficulty rating. I believe even a beginner can assemble this printer if they’re very careful and very patient. My rating has nothing to do with the build process but I believe that Prusa did a great job in creating this kit and it was worthy of a word or two of recognition. After completion, the prints don’t stick to the bed. They get drug around by the nozzle until they’re a mess of plastic fibers and not a cohesive model. I tried everything:. Wash the bed, check. Use a glue stick, check. Adjust the Z-axis in the “live-Z” process, check. I did get one model to actually stick to the bed and print but the print quality was very poor. In conclusion, even though I enjoyed building this kit and know, because I built it, how to fix some issues by adjusting gear mesh, belt tension, etc. even when it works properly, it just sucks. And for almost $1000 it COMPLETELY sucks. ... show more

    • Challenge to build; rewarding when printing

I bought the kit version as a challenge. The documentation that comes with it is quite good. The chapters are also available online, which is nice because the photos can be enlarged compared to the book. Although I tried hard, I could not make the wire bundles as neat as in the manual, but it still works. Some of the writeup of the calibration method is sketchy. The authors seem to assume a shared common knowledge. However, YouTube can come to the aid of a novice like me. ... show more
