The shelf set looks nice and is extremely easy to set up. I give them three stars for a couple of reasons. 1) On Amazon the product description says each shelf holds 125 pounds, but the written instructions which come with the set state that without feet each shelf can hold 70 pounds and with the feet installed each shelf is good for 40 pounds. 2) The latching mechanism in back sticks out and will scratch your wall , which is kind of annoying. ... show more

I have been an Oragami fan for years and have at least 11 throughout my home in various sizes, this tall narrower one is my favorite. The look is very attractive and can fit in your home decor, I bought this unit for my kitchen but decided to use in my bathroom instead, I have another one in there ready, but with my 2 teenage girls sharing the bathroom, it requires all the storage I can get! I only gave it a 4 for sturdiness because it doesn't seem to be perfectly stable and sways a bit, I even tried taking the feet off and it still swayed. I decided it wouldn't work for the kitchen for fear of it falling with the weight and someone accidentally knocking into it. I never had that problem with any of the other racks, it seems like it is a bit lighter too. I am wondering if they changed the metal to a lighter weight? I ordered two of these. Both black. I received a black and a bronze. I ended up liking the bronze color more so I didn't mind the mistake. I didn't need them to match, but it would have been frustrating if I did. The bronze bookshelf has a slightly warped top shelf, and one of the circular support feet was difficult to screw in. However, the bookshelf seems sturdy and looks surprisingly cool with the crisscross design. It was very easy to unpack and open. No assembly at all, really. Just take it out of the box, open it, hook a mid latch, and flip the top shelf over and latch. It sways side to side if you push lightly, but I think someone would have to fall into it to cause it to break. Front to back it is solid and very stable. There is no way this will tip forward. Definitely a good value. I kind of expect some small issues when getting such a big bookshelf with no assembly and at a very low cost. ... show more

Concept is fantastic. The shelf unit met our needs perfectly for the color, size, fit in space and overall look. We put books on the shelf. The unit is wobbly. The top shelf is useless; connection is one point only which causes the top to tilt if you put anything up there. Forget being in an earthquake zone. Must say we were disappointed. I have other origami and I will continue to order origami. But the thing I have found is it is a hit or miss whether you get a good one or not. When you get a good undamaged one it is a fantastic product that will last many years but there are alot of defective ones. I'm not sure why? Maybe quality control needs to be better from manufacturer. The bronze waffle-texture bookshelf I got had shelves 2 and 3 that bent down when fully opened. They would not lay flat, so unfortunately I had to return it. But for future buyers this really is a great bookshelf and I promptly got a refund. RECOMMEMDATION: carefully take out of box without ripping it because like I said origami is a hit or miss and you may have to box it back up and return it. I have had this issue as well ordering from popular shopping channel and other websites, so it's not limited to Amazon I believe it is quality control that is needed from manufacturer. Dont let this discourage you, when you open the box and have a nice solid undamaged piece of origami will be hooked like I am. ... show more

I ordered this in white about 4 years ago and have utilized it as a book case, decorative piece, and had a portable ceramic heater on it for the winter months. The open shelves allow for you to be able to reach in through the sides to access items or on/off switches. I had it next to my reclining couch for a couple of years and used one shelf as an end table for putting my drink on when I ate on the couch watching movies. I liked it for that because the shelf washes off with soap and water and can easily disinfect the shelf without damaging it. I just received my 2nd shelf today- ordered it in black- for our college age child for extra storage. It was exactly the same as our white one that we got 4 years ago. My mom recommend these shelves!! Oh my gosh I am hooked I love them!! I bought 2 the first time. After that I loved them so much I bought another then another!! Total 4! Keeps everything organized ! Plus gives you so much extra space!! They are sturdy !! Plus easy to set up put the feet on and pull out the box.
