Confession: I prefer reading about organizing, rather than actually doing it - or so I thought. I’ve read Marie Kondo, Julie Morgenstern, and MANY, many others. However, the McMenamin sisters, Katie and Kelly, and their book ORGANIZE YOUR WAY totally clicked. What sold me was their unique perspective – we must organize according to our personality style. Wow - that makes total sense. Not one author in my history of reading books in this genre ever presented my "messy self" in this way. What kept me reading was the sisters’ upbeat, breezy writing style. I felt like I was hanging out with my best friends. With highlighted “FUN TIPS” throughout the book, smart checklists, and clear illustrations that spell out solutions, Katie and Kelly also have organized minds.     • A fun book to read!
Such a fun book to read!! Reading Organize Your Way feels like sitting down with a good friend for a fun talk, but it taught me a ton, and gave me some great insights on how to organize myself and my home for me and for my family. One of the best parts of this book is that it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ technique to organizing- it’s the opposite of that: it helps you figure out what your personality type is, then explains how that influences your approach to organization, and then gives such helpful advice on how to organize around your own life-style. It is written in such a clever and charming tone with cute illustrations; the authors have managed to take a somewhat stressful topic and turn it into a topic that’s joyful to talk about. ... show more

This book really helped both myself and my husband accept each other and our individual organizational styles in a new way. Authors, Katie and Kelly McMenamin, offer an insightful view of organization based on personality types. My family cleared our calendar this weekend for a Spring cleaning organization day inspired by "Organize Your Way". I say Hurray! Kelly and Katie explain how to organize your home, office, etc is a way that makes it easy for everyone! I got the book yesterday and seriously could not put it down...I think I may have spilled my children's dinner on it while trying to read and cook! I loved finding out my personality type and learning how I can organize my home in a way that works for us and can actually stay that way. Chapter 12 for kids rooms and playrooms is a must-read for anyone that is constantly trying to find a place for toys, art supplies, etc. ... show more

Katie and Kelly have written a book for all of us who need to get our lives organized -- from the overstuffed closet to the messy desk to that impenetrable home office.     • Specific strategies for your personality
Weird book lover moment: I am so glad I got a physical copy of this book rather than digital. It's a cute size and a cool texture. It just feels good in your hands. Organize Your Way is a fun read. It never felt intimidating or overwhelming (as some organizing information can.) I wanted to implement the strategies immediately because they made sense for me. What makes this book stand out from everything else out there about household organization is the personalization. The strategies are based on your personality type. There is a short quiz at the beginning of the book. You can also take it on their website Pixiesdidit.com (which is what I did.) I will admit determining my type from the quiz results was slightly confusing. Mostly, because I didn't understand the directions. So, I don't blame the authors for that. Readers are encouraged to not blindly follow the results of the quiz but to also read the summary of each personality type and determine which truly describes them. My quiz results were more "Who I'd like to be" than "Who I am." After reading the summaries, it's clear. I am an Organic Structure. I like to make piles. I like things where I can see them. I like routine, schedules and calendars. This translates into what type of organization works for me. It also creates conflict since I live with other humans who aren't my clones and have different organizational ideas. This system is not just about making an area look pretty, although that is going to happen by default. The main tenant of the system is retrieval. Can you find what you need when you need it? Organize Your Way addresses each room with universal tips that can be applied to every personality type then breaks down very specific suggestions and guidance for each type individually, complete with "Pixie Tips" side bars and adorable illustrations. Each chapter concludes with a checklist for that household area. There are specific chapters on dealing with toys and conflicts that arise when two personality types have to co-exist. I whole-heartedly recommend this for anyone interested cutting the clutter and add some organization to their life! *I received a copy of this book from the publisher* ... show more
