  • Great projector so far
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
I've used this projector for 3 days now and it's fantastic. This is the second projector I've owned. The fan is nice and quiet even after the unit has been on for hours. It isn't very heavy so it was fairly easy to mount close to my ceiling with only a 5 inch down tube. The image is bright has heck (see picture and excuse the mess - note that there are two table lamps on at the time and it's still crazy bright). Some people have mentioned light leak and there definitely is some but it doesn't bother me. Games and movies look amazing and buttery smooth on it. The bulb is super bright so black levels aren't as dark as they could be but that's a trade off that projector owners should understand. There's also a way to lower the bulb brightness and save on bulb life but I haven't tried that yet to see what difference it makes. My only complaint (so far) is that the remote is kind of cheap looking. It's white and has a weird shape and is very light so it just feels a little cheap. I do like how it has separate power on and power off buttons. Since those are the only two I'll ever be pressing I don't really care about the remote too much. So 5 stars overall! ... show more

  • Great projector picture ruined by white spots
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
I sold my Optoma UHD60 to "upgrade" to this model November 26, 2021. I wanted to experience 120hz on my Xbox and put an end to the rainbow effect my 60 had. This projector had a gorgeous picture that made gaming feel even more next gen. That is, until I got my first white dot. I called Optoma June 13th and opened a case for repair. I would have to pay $100 to ship it in. That sucks, but I would say the cost. Before I agreed, the two added a caveat; Optoma is struggling to find parts, so my projector could be sitting in a repair facility for months. They won't swap it even though it is still under a year-long warranty, so they urged me to keep it until I'm called that parts are in. Come July, I got my second dot. As of this post, I have three. These bright white dots are an eyesore and a distraction, especially in dark scenes. Once a DMD chip begins to fail, it will continue until white dots engulf the screen. My projector didn't make it 6 months. This could be real bad by the anniversary of the projector. What will be of my warranty then? Customer service has been missing in action. I'm really regretting this purchase. These dots really take away from the experience. ... show more

  • Excellent 4K for the money!
Style: UHD50 (2400 Lumens)
This is the second 4K projector I am trying. I have an in focus X 10 1080 P projector which I was looking to replace. I also have a review on the ViewSonic 747. Pros: Compared to the other XRP pixel shifting projectors, this one by far has the darkest black levels and the least gray border around the screen that I have seen. (ALL xrp based projectors will have a light gray boarder around the picture.) overall I find The black levels are excellent, the colors are phenomenal, and I find the contrast to be exceptional. If you’re looking for a budget 4K projector for home theater, this is it. It is bright and can even be used with some lights on. IMO the pj is quieter than all my previous projectors, some of which (crt) required a hush box! Lens shift and EXCELLENT focus make this pj easy to adjust. It also has digital keystone and image shift is absolutely needed. Cons: There definitely are crt and digital 1080 P projectors that have better black levels with similar contrast and color quality. I’m going to tell you that my opinion is those half million to one contrast type numbers are only under certain conditions and are generally exaggerated. Do some research and find where people that have had the equipment have actually measure these projectors. There is some light spill from the unit, but I do not find it objectionable at all. Summary: If you’re on a budget for 4K home theater this is an excellent value. It does support 3-D under certain conditions. If you’re looking for a presentation projector where brightness is a huge factor (and black levels do not matter), and you’re on a budget, you might be better off with the ViewSonic 747 . But for movies and TV and a light controlled room, I absolutely love this projector! To say that I love this projector is to say a lot, because I have had everything from crt like the sony 1030, 1031, 1272, d50, barco, benq, and a bunch of digital / others even including other optima projectors. There is no question in my mind that no (current, reasonably priced) digital projector is going to match the black level of CRT. But this projectors compromises on that certainly make up for the ease-of-use, the size, resolution, out of box color accuracy, focus and many many other factors. Again, I love this projector and I would highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Awesome 4k and HDR but needs initial tweeking!!
Style: UHD55 (Latest Model, 3600 Lumens)
I got this True 4k projector and set it up to my Nvidia Shield Pro and Oppo 4k UHD player through an Anthem 8K processor. At first I had mixed feelings. First the remote control is terrible! It takes twice as long to adjust the picture, shape, size,...etc because the remote either does not work or double taps. You need to set up the picture for SDR (4k) for videos from Youtube, and for HDR (4k) for videos from Netflix, HBO, Prime, and a UHD player. The SDR setting was easy to set up and adjust. Blacks were deep and bold, whites are bright, and colors were vivid. The hardest color to adjust was green. However I could not get HDR to look as good. The blacks were a bit washed out and the whites were blooming and pixelating all over, especially the sky and high contrast scenes. It also looked a bit grainy from time to time. I knew something was wrong. From the SDR settings I could see that the projector was capable of better. SOLUTION: After some research I found out that in order to get a good HDR image that uses a HCG (high color gamut) or wider range of color, you need to plug into HDMI2 not HDMI1. After making this change and tweeking the setting a bit I was astonished at the video coming out of this projector. I looks almost as good as my Sony A80J downstairs! Blacks are solid, whites were not blooming anymore and everything was beautiful and sharp. I actually decided to turn down the sharpness a bit for more of a natural look. I tested the new Lord of the Rings and House of Dragons which had several dark and light scenes, and everything was gorgeous. This went from a 3star to 5star overnight. Please try this fix if you are using HDMI1, and feel free to ask me questions! ... show more
