I actually downgraded from really nice and powerful Onkyo 1080P AV Receiver to this unit to have the ability to process my 4K video components. Although this unit is not as powerful (just slightly less) as the unit I had, it's puts out a good clean sound. It has all of the Dolby / DTS, etc. modes that I care to use and works great in 5.1 and 7.1. What I really like is the ability to adjust the Bass, Treble and Mid via controls on the front of the receiver and the remote control without having to go into an EQ menu every-time. The setup is very basic, but has all of the essential speaker configurations, input label customization's, and more, however it's not as pretty, and robust as the setup of my previous and more expensive Onkyo receiver. Bottom line- I highly recommend this for someone who is looking for 4K AV, good clean sound, customizable, and easy to configure and use receiver without breaking the bank. I'm a big fan of Onkyo and would suggest looking at the higher end models if they are in your budget. If not, this is the receiver for you. ... show more

Pros: #1 for me would be, Dolby Atmos and DTS Neural:X both work in Windows 10!!! I was nervous when another user said it didn't work. Setting up on Windows 10 was a little time consuming, because I had to basically play around with a bunch of settings, but none the less it WORKS!! Has Treble and Bass adjustments along with VOICE. Voice adjustments is a must have, I can hear people talking clearly now, unlike the last receiver(I had to adjust the EQ). Easy to setup receiver with onscreen displays. The setup mic makes things easier. If I don't turn on the Receiver, my PC defaults to my tv speakers!! This is a must, the bass for certain exercise YouTube videos is deep and wouldn't want to wake the entire house in the morning. Has an audio select button to select my onboard sound card(rca input) or my graphics card(HDMI input)! Finally found this small button on the lower half of the remote (took me a minute, but it's there). Sounds like a movie theater with my 5.1.2 setup and Dayon B652 speakers and 10" sub. I am completely dumb founded. My son and his friend blew up my Yamaha RX-V373 5.1, I have to tell you, what a complete difference with this receiver, it's like night and day....and I acutally thought the Yamaha sounded great. I can't read the small display on the receiver so the info button on the remote is a help. Push info button and as indicated in the pic a popup occurs in the lower rt hand corner displaying the sound format. Blurays are also flawless as figured. Has a feature to cap off at a certain max volume. Sorry son, no more blowin up my speakers. The sound is clear and loud. I haven't had the volume over 65 yet, that is way too loud. Between 30-50 for my small 15 x 15 area. I can't imagine going up to 75 let along 100, something would definately blow?? I absolutely couldn't be happier!! Negative: Too much bass :) Will get warm when playing heavy stuff, I wonder if I can add a usb fan with that usb port in the back of the receiver? ... show more

    • Decent sound, somewhat illogical features
I bought this receiver and a Klipsch “theater in a box,” 5.1 speaker pack about a year ago. I have a separate review for the speakers so I’ll just talk about the receiver itself here. Pros: Sound quality is pretty damn good for the money. If you’re watching a lot of movies I’m not aware of any other receiver at this price point that will get you Atmos-equipped/offer up to 5.1.2 or 7.1 speaker complements. Setup is pretty easy too, if you’ve owned a wired receiver-based system before. You might also decide to use the AccuEQ setup with the included microphone in terms of initial setup. I tried it and found it to be a good starting point with some minor adjustments after the fact. I’ll also say there’s enough inputs of various types here to use a wide variety of audio sources, although no dedicated phono input so if you plan to use a record player you’ll need to either get a separate preamp or buy one with a built-in preamp. I also really like that you can rename the inputs to your liking, definitely cool. Cons: Having said that, there some minor niggles I have here - but none are detrimental. I’m satisfied with this receiver but there some features I don’t quite get. From quick menu function on the remote you can individually adjust the volume for the front speakers, center speaker and subwoofer - but not for whatever surrounds you’re using. These speakers CAN be individually adjusted for volume in the more extensive menus but only by doing a sound test where the receiver emits white noise through each speaker one at a time. So adjusting the rears or height speakers is pretty much like redoing the whole setup. If you’re watching a movie or listening to music and you want to adjust the fronts, center, or sub - that’s easy. You can do it while your music rocks on. But if you feel like you want a little bump for the rears you can’t adjust these while listening to the actual source. You can only do it with white noise. Makes no sense. The remote isn’t laid out particularly well, but you get used to it. Bluetooth: the Bluetooth connection is under-powered. You can boost the input signal of it, but it’ll get noisy if you do. Also the connection can drop sometimes and my phone was in the habit of “forgetting” this device every now and then. If you’re planning to use a record player and you need a pre-amp anyway, do what I did and grab a Fosi Audio Box X3, which is a tube-powered phono preamp with Bluetooth receiver function - boom huge upgrade in quality and function. So yeah, this is a budget receiver with some quirks, but like the Millennium Falcon she’s got it where it counts. The sound quality is great and many of the features are extremely useful. I would definitely recommend it for someone who wants quality sound but doesn’t want to overpay. ... show more
