  • lacking...
Color: Black
I ordered 2 of this product on Aug. 18th. As a prime member, I was hoping for 2 day delivery. There was no tracking number so I couldn't tell when the items would be delivered. 2 weeks later, I received ONE of the bookcases and both sides were broken in half. Over 3 weeks later, still no ETA on the second bookcase. Can't refund/exchange till the second one arrives. When? Who knows, because there's no tracking number and no hint of how long it'll be. Ordered another one. Began to assemble. The instructions are lacking. You have to try to figure out where some of the parts go, and which way the pieces fit by looking in the pictures. The screws don't screw in tight. After you get it in about 2/3 of the way, the whole unit goes roundy round and won't tighten and secure. After assembling the whole thing (no easy feat to do), The front panel was backwards. So had to take the whole side apart to try to get that one piece turned around. The screws came right out! they didn't screw in tightly to begin with and now I had to deal with a loose screw while trying to maneuver turning one part around. The holes and screws didn't line up, so it made assembly that much harder. Since it's particle board, you can't use much force because you'll damage it. Frustrating assembly. Once assembled, it seems sturdy enough, though I'm not sure I'd buy it again... The dealer should be required to provide tracking for the order. More information should be provided for the assembly. Someone should check the line up of the holes. Someone should check why the screws don't screw in all the way. ... show more

  • An Amazing Headache
Color: White
This was a pain to assemble. Remarkably hard to put together and we could not for the life of us get the back to fit in. Literally had to call it quits on the back paneling because we couldn't get them in. On top of that, we noticed after we put it up that on of the storage shelves arrived cracked. After the headache of attempting to put it up, we sure as can be weren't going to disassemble it just to return it and go through all that again so I contacted amazon hoping they'd be able to send a replacement. Nope. The seller itself is impossible to contact. They send a link to their website with the product but will never respond to your inquiries. Overall, it's cheap and wobbly, difficult to assemble and poorly backed up by customer support. Absolutely would not recommend. ... show more

  • I expected more from a $200 shelf
Color: Espresso
The media could not be loaded. First, it’s weird that the reviews here are for various products. 3,000k reviews and it seems they are all for a “desk”? So did the company just “edit” the desk listing and list the shelf I purchased so there were a ton of reviews? Now, $200 for a shelf on Amazon and I would hope the thing would be good quality. While the finished product turned out nice, the construction decisions and adhesive on the product left much to be desired for the price. I’m pretty handy and having been assembling a TON of furniture lately after a recent move. This shelf took roughly 3 hours to assemble. If you like building models, or hate having free time on the weekends then this is the shelf for you! First a board had a piece of packing tape across it and I needed my wife to peel it off with her nails. Then I set about the task of using Goo-Gone for the next 30 minutes to get all the tape residue off the premium shelf I just purchased. Then when I sat down to assemble it, I noticed ANOTHER sticker slapped right on the side piece saying “call us before returning” which seemed redundant since they included a large piece of paper with this exact message NOT glued onto my nice wood shelf. Now the ingenious thing about this sticker is that it was printed on cheap paper, so it literally tears apart in every direction the moment it touches your fingers. I had to use a hair dryer and popsicle stick to slowly pry the thing off and 20 minutes later had another nice gooey spot I had to clean up with Goo-Gone. (Amazon should make Goo-Gone a “recommended item” with this purchase.) So finally, after roughly an hour of cleaning up the product it was ready to assemble. For whatever reason they used these plastic cam holes for the cam bolts to screw into. They appear to be threaded, but since the cam bolts are metal they simply go in however they please. So forget about using an electric screwdriver and just tightening down by hand at the end. You’ll be doing this all by hand. And hopefully you have the perfect eye for telling when a 1” post is perfectly 90 degrees because these things go in at every kind of angle but up. You will constantly need to back them out, apply pressure and re-screw it to get them even close to where they should be. Then comes the step where you need to slide the back panels in. Make note your center shelf has an orientation even though it's not listed in the instructions. It needs to be flush with the front of the shelf in order to properly install the back panels. Now comes the task of lowering on the other side panel that needs to line up properly with 9 cam bolts. And god help you if you’re not a furniture building robot and any of those cam bolts are slightly off. Once the side panel is secure, bend the back panels ever so slightly to pop them into the groove on the other side, because there’s no humanly way you managed to do the 9 cam bolts and 5 loose panels wobbling around on the back. After it was together I tipped it up and it had a lot of wobble for a $200 shelf. Adding the slide in shelves and back bracers helped, but with every single cam tightened down it should not have felt so loose and cheap. They include tape for the back panels but they still ride up off the shelves just a bit and look cheap and loose. I hammered a finishing nail into the middle of each one and that helped. (These are not included, they were my own nails.) Overall I would never buy this shelf again. It looks nice. But has a lot of problems for a $200 purchase from little nicks on the edges to straight up glue on the wood. Honestly you’ll get roughly the same result from a $50 shelf on Amazon, the main difference being this isn’t pure laminate. I hated the build, I was annoyed by all the glue and sticky blobs I found on it and overall the shelf just didn’t deliver for the price. There’s no way I was going to attempt to send it back so I have finished it up as nicely as I can and will learn to live with it I guess. TL:DR; Fool me once... ... show more

  • Bookcase DIFFICULT to assemble
Color: White
The back "wall" of this bookcase is very difficult to assemble. There are 5 boards that almost fit together, but not quite. My wife and I struggled with this these back wall boards for almost an hour with just this one component. They are slightly too wide - each probably less than one millimeter oversized but when one tries to fit them all into the groove channel they are just to large to all fit together. I filed one of the down and we were able to get them to all fit ... BUT because the material is fiberboard (not wood) the paint chips easily when we unsuccessfully tried to force them together. Fortunately, the shelf placement hides the chipped paint, however this means that if you want to hide the seam and chips at the board edges you just can't but the shelves anywhere unless you want to expose these defects. In my opinion the product is poorly designed and engineered. I would have returned it, but then I have to take it all apart and package a heavy item. Returning wasn't worth the trouble ... I'll just live with shelf heights that hide the defects. My struggle with this bookcase made me appreciate the design/engineering of IKEA furniture which is notorious for being difficult to assemble, but in my personal experience, much easier than this one. ... show more
