Features

  • Maple is a type of hardwood that is commonly used in guitar manufacturing. It is also a very hygienic wood, which is why it is the number one choice for cutting boards. After careful sorting and processing to remove impurities, OLA Cycle turns scraps from guitar production into toothbrushes. This repurposing of waste gives new life to the material in the form of a functional product that everyone can use!
  • Each OLA Cycle toothbrush is embossed with attractive Maple leaf designs to make it a visually appealing product for your bathroom counter. Available with durable soft bristles for oral care, hygiene, and gum protection.
  • Maples strength and durability holds the bristles better, so they dont come loose in your mouth. Maple toothbrushes are harder than bamboo and stay very hygienic when left to dry upright in an open container. This means in addition to the environmental benefits, OLA Cycle toothbrushes last longer and are more pleasant to use than many bamboo toothbrushes.
  • Maple is a natural material, which means the 100% sustainable handle will break down more easily in the environment once it has reached the end of its useful life.
  • OLA Cycles use of recycled guitar manufacturing scraps to create maple toothbrushes is a great example of how creativity and innovation can be used to address environmental challenges and promote sustainability.

  • Not as soft as I would like
Size: Pack of 2
So after trying this for several weeks, I wouldn’t necessarily say these are toothbrushes I would want to get again. While I love the interesting way they are made, the design leaves a bit to be desired. First of all, I wouldn’t say these are soft toothbrushes / soft bristles. This feels a lot more like a medium or even hard bristle brush, which is not the best for my gums. Second, the head itself is quite a bit smaller than I am used to for a toothbrush. Probably great for getting into tight spaces, but for me I don’t’ like it as much as the larger heads. The base/handle is a bit small as well - it’s not as easy to hold and manuver as a longer or thicker handle. The design of the brush is great however. I love that there is a curve on the bristles rather than bristles simply straight across, because I feel like it cleans my teeth a lot more effectively. The handle is also very pretty to look at with the small maple leaves and the wooden design. ... show more

  • Decent toothbrushes, but wood handles are not for me.
Size: Pack of 2
I love the idea of a more sustainable toothbrush, and these seemed like they would be a great option to test out. The bristles are soft like I prefer, and I like the shape that the bristles are cut into. The bristles rinse of toothpaste quickly and easily, as evidenced by the black charcoal toothpaste quickly running through and out of the base of the bristles. However, the brush head is significantly smaller than my usual store bought ones and they don't get around my teeth as much as I would like for them to. The handles are longer than I'm used to, they have a slight curve that doesn't work well for me, and the shape of them is hard for my small hands with nerve damage to grip without tingling- these feel awkward to hold and use. I also quickly found out that I absolutely do not like the feeling of the dampened wood handle moving around in my mouth. The maple is dry and unfinished, and when it gets wet I can feel the swollen grain abrading as the wood brushes against the inside of my mouth. It drives me bonkers, it seems to grab onto the tender inner flesh and try to pull against it- it's similar to a cat's tongue in feel to me, and having that feeling inside my mouth is disturbing. I cannot finish brushing my teeth fast enough when using these, and I held my cheeks out and away with my other hand as much as possible during use. I gave three tries with these brushes, and the more I used them the more I disliked them. However, no matter my own feelings towards using these brushes they are very well made- the bristles are firmly anchored in the head, and the wood is whole pieces that have been sanded down quite smooth with no burrs, chips, or splinters. I simply prefer the slickness of plastic handles, and my particularities and pickiness don't detract from these brushes and how much better of a choice for the environment that they are. • Love the concept!
Size: Pack of 2
Okay, I absolutely love that these are made from recycled maple wood. I might be imagining it but I swear there's a hint of sweetness, haha. I do wish the bristles were a smidge softer, or at least finer, or something. That might be because I usually buy brushes with flossing bristles. Still a good basic brush, though. ... show more

  • Different feel than a plastic toothbrush
Size: Pack of 2
After using plastic handled toothbrushes all my life, switching to wood is definitely different. It's lighter and has a rougher texture. There's nothing wrong with the toothbrush in and of itself - it does the job just like a normal toothbrush, bristles are intact and the brush head is a good size. It's just different. The whole reason I got these to begin with was because of the recycled guitar wood. I thought it was a clever idea and a good way to upcycle. Plus, my husband is a guitar player and I figured he would find it to be neat. ... show more

  • Not happy with this one!
Size: Pack of 2
I've been a fan of all things Canadian for as long as I can remember (my go to fidget toy is a Labatt's bottle cap. I like the familiar maple leaf logo that reminds me of the lakes and woods that I explored in my youth. So, I jumped on these when I saw all of the maple leaves laser etched onto the handle. Imagine my disappointment when I received the brushes and they did not include the amount of ML/C (Maple Leaves per Centimeter) as shown in the product photo! And, to add insult to injury, after a few uses, the sparse maple leaves that are provided began to fade to the point where they could hardly be seen. But, you may be wondering, do they brush your teeth? I honestly feel that the lack of advertised maple leaves made me too mad to brush my teeth well. If I'm going to renounce my Imperial upbringing and adopt Canadian metrics to measure my happiness, do not cheat me out of my ML/C! ... show more

  • Love how they are recycled!
Size: Pack of 2
These OLA Cycle Canadian Maple Toothbrush were first intriguing to me as they are made from scraps from a guitar factory! That is so cool to be able to repurpose those pieces in this manner! They are made from maple which is supposed to last longer than bamboo. The bristles clean well and are sturdy, but soft enough. The brush cleans well. ... show more

  • Work well, the wood feels weird in my mouth
Size: Pack of 2
I am in a new stage in my life where I am trying to live cleaner in general so this was a great option of using recycled materials and not plastic. I love that about these brushes. The bristles work well and are soft. The feeling of the wood handle feels weird to me though.

  • Nice toothbrushes
Size: Pack of 2
For some reason I’m loving the idea of these being made from guitar factory scraps. Very resourceful. They are simple, wooden brushes. They almost feel like giant, thick toothpicks. The handles are shaped for a comfortable grip. The bristles are soft and also shaped for a comfortable and effective brushing. At six dollars for each brush, they are a bit on the expensive side. But they can be a conversation piece too. Or make an interesting gift for that musician in your life. ... show more
