Description

RADIOHEAD / OK COMPUTER - vinyl LP - Even at it's most adventurous - such as the complex, multi-segmented "Paranoid Android" - the band is tight, melodic, and muscular, and Thom Yorke's voice effortlessly shifts from a sweet falsetto to vicious snarls. It's a thoroughly astonishing demonstration of musical virtuosity and becomes even more impressive with repeated listens, which reveal subtleties like electronica rhythms, eerie keyboards, odd time signatures, and complex syncopations. - Yet all of this would simply be showmanship if the songs weren't strong in themselves, and OK Computer is filled with moody masterpieces, from the shimmering "Subterranean Homesick Alien" and the sighing "Karma Police" to the gothic crawl of "Exit Music (For a Film)." OK Computer is the album that establishes Radiohead as one of the most inventive and rewarding bands of the '90s. - Using the textured soundscapes of The Bends as a launching pad, Radiohead delivered another startlingly accomplished set of modern guitar rock with OK Computer. The anthemic guitar heroics present on Pablo Honey and even The Bends are nowhere to be heard here. Radiohead have stripped away many of the obvious elements of guitar rock, creating music that is subtle and textured yet still has the feeling of rock roll.

  • Classic on vinyl!
Radiohead sounds fantastic on vinyl. Period. End of review. Really.

  • An amazing spunding edition of an amazing album!
Unlike previous pressing, this edition has actually been mixed for LP, as opposed to super compressed digital audio. An absolutely perfect mix, this is what OK Computer was meant to sound like! 180g vinyl, gatefold double LP- worth absolutely every penny!

  • very pleased
I ordered this a few months back on vinyl and I've been very pleased with the quality of the pressing that I received. It has white colored Capitol labels on the records. The packaging is beautiful with dual record sleeves--one with artwork and one with anti-static lining. You know the music already so I'll skip commenting on that. I am a musician who works with audio many hours each day and I know that people have specific preferences when it comes to audio production. Some like really pristine sounding Hi Fi recordings while others prefer a bit of iron transformer, magnetic saturation, or valve edge to their music. There is plenty of info on the web (some of it contradictory) about how this album was recorded, but the overall theme seems to favor mostly analog techniques and magnetic tape. The vinyl version was mastered separately at Abbey Road (I think) and from what I hear on eenie and meenie, some of the individual tracks--especially the vocals--were slammed into the front end of an analog mojo box (tube compressor, Pultec EQ, could be one of a million possibilities) with all of the buttons pushed in. If you have a modern record player with, say an Ortifon 2m cart., it's going to sound unsettling unless you have and eq capable of some surgical maneuvers . If you have a Nagoka or maybe a Grado cart that is more laid back, it's gonna sound amazing. But our systems differ in countless ways, so the results are impossible to predict because this is such a different recording than most of us are used to. It's not Taylor Swift or Brad Paisley trying to sound like a silk scarf wrapped around a velvet smoking jacket. It's more like Burlap underwear on (insert your favorite supermodel's name here--male models too, we don't discriminate). So buy it. It's only $26 so what do you have to lose? And then let us know how you like it. I'm good with it. It makes me smile while at the same time feeling wholly inadequate as an engineer. Near zero surface noise. Hot pressing. Punchy. Urgent vocals and guitars. Gorgeously satisfying analog vibe. ... show more

  • XL Disc Labels
Well it's no secret that the XL Radiohead reissue campaign was a mess (To be fair, it wasn't really a campaign as much as it was XL just distributing leftover stock from Parlophone and Capitol). So-called XL copies began arriving in Capitol sleeves with Parlophone discs inside... or Capitol discs... or XL labels (now). There didn't appear to be much rhyme or reason to it and it was kind of a crap shoot on what you might receive depending on which album you were purchasing. Many people were pleasantly surprised to find Parlophone discs inside OK Computer rather than Capitol discs as Parlophone pressings are widely considered to be superior to Capitol. But my Parlophone discs were less than impressive... Terrible highs, no definition in cymbal crashes especially... really lackluster stuff all around. So I traded my copy into a local record store and purchased a copy of OK Computer with XL logos on the sleeve. The discs inside had XL logos on the center labels as well. Figured that the sound would be roughly the same but that it was worth a shot. And... I was absolutely blown away. This was the best I'd ever heard OK Computer. Goosebumps abound as Thom performs Exit Music... seemingly from within my room. Climbing up the Walls, Let Down, Karma Police, Paranoid Android... all as if they were recorded just today. Presented here on this pressing as I've only imagined them sounding in the past. Not sure if these XL labels are just slapped on to old Parlophone discs or if they're new pressings. But, dear god, my copy is perfection. And I absolutely hope you have the same experience!! I've begun to realize that it really doesn't matter what the logo says... Parlophone/Capitol/XL be damned. Sometimes you get a good one that makes the hair on your arms stand at end. Find one that sounds good to your ears! The confusing manner in which XL spat old stock all over the place is the only reason for the 4 star rating. This is absolutely one of my best sounding records. (I actually admire the attempt to not be wasteful by using the old stock but, god, there was just no way to tell if you were going to get a lemon or an absolute sonic marvel). Happy hunting! ... show more

  • Definitely not the extended version shown in the track listing.
It has the extended track listing shown but you do not get that version. Needs to be made clear and not advertised improperly.
