  • A great entry-level set to get you on your way.
Color: Deep Blue+Black Size: 30"(160-250lbs)
I’ve committed to be more fit and active during the winter season to make February less painful when it’s time to trim down for Spring. One of my more sadistic friends has encouraged me to join in his hobby of snowshoeing. I don’t know why one would do that when they could just hop on a snowmobile instead. Or just stay home and drink hot chocolate for that matter. Oh well. To each his own. I ordered the 30” size because I am 5’6” and 170 pounds. I am a novice to all this so I don’t know that my opinion should carry much weight. However, my friend is a little more experienced and we inspected this gear together. The snowshoes were impressive in their build quality yet they are very light in weight. While I don’t have experience with these, the construction seems solid by any manufacturing standard. In full disclosure, it has not snowed yet here in northern Arizona, however after a dry run on the lawn, everything fit, moved and held up as expected. Walking in them is definitely an acquired skill. All the buckles and rivets and connections remained firm and secure. They felt about as comfortable as snowshoes can feel. The ratchet system makes adjustments easy. The poles are light and feel good in your hands. I love the colors I picked. Very bright and vibrant. Although, maybe not the best color for search and rescue teams. If I had to offer two criticisms, it would be these. First, the bag is very, very thin. They come packed with thick cardboard to keep the cleats from cutting anything. My fear is that the bag won’t take much abuse at all. Be super careful how you repack them in there and maybe keep the cardboard, although it will quickly become soggy if you pack the snowshoes immediately after use. It’s definitely not commensurate with the quality of the rest of the kit. My other concern is the clamps on the pole. They work great and securely held the legs extended, but they open very easily. If you catch them on something, they’ll flip open and you’ll have to stop and mess with them. Not enough to take away a star, but just something to consider. Overall I am super happy and looking forward to putting them to use. Kinda. ... show more

  • Nice snowshoes, but the poles kept collapsing on me…
I have two sets of snowshoes from this company and the heel strap is different on this one and so it was easier to tighten them enough to fit a smaller woman’s foot (6.5) than the other pair. I love these snowshoes. They work well. The poles are a different style from my other pair. These snap closed around the pole, but will still slide a little, or unsnap if they get caught on something. That was a little frustrating. Other than that, I’m very happy to have these! ... show more

  • Great beginner shoes for the occasional snow warrior
Color: White+Blue Size: 25"(120-160lbs)
We might only use these a few times each year but they appear like a great option for hiking through deep snow on the mountain. It comes in a case that holds the shoes, poles, and tips together. The ratchet straps for the boots seem functional (like snowboard bindings) but I wonder how they'll hold up to repeated use if these were used regularly. For occasional use, I'm sure they'll be fine. But if you're looking for something that's going to be used daily or multiple times per week for the whole season, there's a chance the bindings might be the first thing to go over time. I don't think it's fair to compare the case and shoes to sets costing hundreds of dollars more as they're not really in the same class. But for light use the time or two a year we would want to use them, I think these are a good choice at this price point. It will get you in the door and give you some experience to see if you like trudging through the snow or not. And I don't see any reason the trekking poles couldn't be used throughout the year for regular hiking even if the shoes aren't being utilized. There are different tips provided that just screw on and off so you could adjust them as needed for the conditions (ice, snow, dirt, etc). ... show more

  • Now I can finish my quest to find the Abominable Snowman.
The media could not be loaded. I have been wanting a new pair of snowshoes for years so that I can continue my quest to have a cup of hot cocoa with the Abominable Snowman. Well, that is what I set out to do once when I was a kid and still have not caught up with him yet. So these might help be achieve my dream. I used to have the old-fashioned kind of snowshoes when I was younger and these are so easy and so much better. They are very nice quality and attention to every detail, well except the instructions. But they are easy to put on and easy to remove with the quick release and ratcheting straps. They are very rugged and still very lightweight. The poles that are included have several attachments for differing terrain or just to use for hiking on non-winter days. The included carrying bag is a very nice touch. The only disappointment that I have is that there are no clear instructions other than how to care for them. So figuring them was was pretty self explanatory, with the exception of the gray plastic tab and metal piece under the heel of your boot. Still trying to figure what this is all about. The bottom has some really good metal grips under the ball of your foot and your heel to help grip in the icy conditions to help from slipping and gaining traction when needed. I did discover unexpectedly that when walking down a very steep slope that in fresh snow or powder these do act like little sleds and I did about do the splits on the way down. So, I might suggest to take the downhill on the side slope rather than straight down like I did, unless you want to get there quicker. I attached a video test showing how easy these are to put on your boots and a walking test down and up a very steep hill in about two feet of fresh snow on about ten inches of hard snow from the previous storm. I only sunk down in the snow about 4 inches and am 180 lbs, so these work well as intended. All in all, these are awesome snowshoes and the included poles are a must have bonus. Highly recommended for those who want to have a cup of hot cocoa with the Abominable Snowman, like me! ... show more
