  • SOLID FOR A FIRST TIME OWNER OF A 3 LIGHT SETUP, WON'T BREAK THE BANK. JUST BECAREFUL, LIGHT.
First, a quick introduction about lights, their use, and why you generally want a three-light setup for any lighting situation. When Lighting anything, you always want a key light and two sidelights to fill everything in. It’s a basic triangle setup. It’s all about angles at the end of the day, and you can search on YouTube for its essential lighting setup, which introduces you to how lights are used. This is an excellent introduction lighting set for somebody looking for a budget setup who doesn’t want to spend too much on equipment and is an entry-level to mid-level photograph. They spend about $1000 on a camera and a couple hundred dollars on lenses. Typically, lights this nature range from 50 to well over $1000 for the pending setup in your needs. Again, I’m looking at this lighting setup as somebody new to the industry and interested in spending some money, time, and energy into potentially a podcast during some product shots or shooting themselves on YouTube. The things I like about the lights are that they are USB. What’s nice about that is you can plug it into any outlet. Everybody has a ton of USB around, and the cord is extended. You can create the triangle-type setup that you need for shooting. The cords overall are solid in length. I would like to see them a little bit longer, and as many people have mentioned, one of the downsides of the controls is that it’s actually on the cord itself, and it really should be on the back or potentially wireless. Overall, the lights are good. They’re not great as far as the plastic type of feel. They do feel a little bit on the cheap end; however, they are incredibly bright. That’s the one thing I was shocked about when I said three up how bright these were for the price point. The stands themselves are standard and are a mixture of metal, and I’ve also of plastic. They are light, so with any lighting setup, you always want to spread your legs as far as possible, giving you a better base. What I do like about the telescopic polls is very familiar to me. These can reach high and angle the lights as much as you want, whether forward or backward. The knobs on the lights itself are plastic. I would like to have them at least be aluminum or metal, but again, you have to look at the price point here. I have precisely LEDs these but at a $300 price point, and each pole is $50 to $100. That gives you an idea of the extreme setup you can have for this type of lighting system. One of the downsides I did not like is there is NO bag you can put these in, and I think that’s important because somebody with this type of lighting set up, I say, more than 50% of the time you will be traveling. I recommend keeping all the separate boxes; keep the box that came in because it’ll be perfect if you need to travel with them. As far as the filters, these are some pretty basic filters you receive on the device with the lights, and overall, I said before that I’m pretty impressed with how bright they are. Being 10 inches long and almost 8 inches tall, you get much bang for your buck here. That’s the most essential thing somebody needs to take away from looking at this product for the price point you’re getting. You’re getting a lot for the bang for your buck. Another thing I like about the lights is that you can rotate them 360°, and they can go up and down 180° this is pretty standard with lights. This is nothing new, but one of the things that I like is how high they go, and it’s a tiny footprint. As far as transporting these, a tripod is typically anywhere from 16 to about 21 inches in each pole and goes down to about 16 inches. As far as the high-end, you’re looking at about 63 inches on a high-end, and you don’t need to go anything higher than that. My only recommendation is if your lights are very high, depending on the angle of the light, it could make the tripod a little bit shaky meaning, if the lights on an angle in the tripod are not set correctly, for example, if the lights facing 180° down or less to say 90 you should have both the tripod legs out in front as a base and the third one in the center of the rear so you have more of a base coming forward my other recommendation would be if you want to put some weight on the actual tripod legs, you can use mini sandbags it’s widespread for me to take a couple of sandbags with me or water bags. You fill them up with water and just put them at the base, or you can put anything towards the base so they don’t fall. Nine out of 10, once you set these lights up, it’s a podcast, a photo shoot. The sky is the limit on what you can do. Another downside for the lights is that you cannot disconnect the cord. Typically, with any lighting setup, you have a separate cord from an AC port. They are not rechargeable. Several lights like this are in the category where you can charge them up, run them for about an hour and a half, and not worry about using the cord. And last but not least, there’s no battery that you can charge externally and throw onto the back of the light. All these options are typically available on higher lights, but I have seen this price point with the lights with all those options. If you spend $70 on lights, look at the price points of $100 and $120, depending on how serious you are about Photography and shooting. Definitely take your time and do some research on YouTube and also an Also, I did look into their online Amazon store. They have a good variety of lights. This is for the beginner or somebody interested in Photography. You’re not going to break the bank. They have a wide variety of products you can pick from, but at the end of the day, this is a great lighting setup for a beginner photographer interested in going to the next step. This will last you a long time if you take CARE of them. Ensure you don’t tangle up your cables, which is the most common thing. Be careful. ... show more

  • Nice Bright Lighting, Stands Just OK
My husband got me a nice camera and I enjoy taking pictures, but I found that the lighting in my house didn’t really lend to good picture taking. A couple of years ago I got a round light on a stand, and it was better than nothing, but it really wasn’t very bright, and I needed light on more sides than just the one to prevent shadows. I really don’t have a large budget because it’s only a part time hobby that doesn’t generate an income. When I saw these lights they appealed to me because of the price, the fact that there were 3, ability to dim and change color temp, and they are on stands. They were the whole package. When I got them, I was excited and pulled them out right away. The lights themselves are a nice size and can be super bright with 11 different brightness settings from super bright to very dim. They are, of course, LED and the light projects quite well onto whatever object or direction that they are pointed. There are 3 different color options from bright white, warm yellow and an in-between and, using the control, it is just a button click away from whatever setting is needed. They each have a USB-A connection for power so they can be used with an adaptor in a regular wall plug, using any USB-A charger or even using a battery pack with a USB-A outlet for portability. The lights ae exactly what I need. As for the stands, they are just ok. They are foldable for set up and take down which makes them portable. They have adjustable heights so they can be set to whatever height needed. I do have a nice tripod, so I have gotten used to the “click into place” set up but these stands have a clamp that is tightened and loosened by a twist knob. It isn’t exactly hard, but it is time consuming to set up as there are 5 different twist knobs to adjust in setting up the stands. The lights are extremely light weight, which is a bonus in making them portable, but the stands are barely stout enough to hold the lights at the tallest position. They lean and sway slightly. It isn’t as bad when set at a lower position. The bottom tripod isn’t very sturdy either which also contribute to the unstableness. All of that to say that the stands are not great at all. I haven’t had one fall, but it might just be a matter of time before I bump one and it topples over. That said, for the price, I can’t really say that I’m upset or even expected them to be any better. I will say that I’m disappointed that they are not a bit more stable than they are but for my needs they will work, and I’ll just be very careful with them. I’ll probably keep my eye out for some better ones and change them out. I’ll also probably also try to find a bag to put them in when not in use. For now, I’m using the box but it’s a little bit of a hassle boxing them up after every use. If the stands were even just a little better, they would definitely be a 5 star to me. In fact I’m happy enough with just the lights I almost gave them 5 stars just for the lights. ... show more

  • Using as grill lights
I pride myself on finding different ways to use things I find on Amazon. These lights have a coupon right now for 30% off, come with stands, and can be connected to battery packs which make them pretty mobile. I'm going to be using these lights as outside lights for when I grill late in the afternoon or early evening when there is limited lighting. They are really bright and can light up my setup and grilling areas without having to attach corded lights everywhere. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better alternative use for these. ... show more

  • Useful Set of Lights
Definitely a good set of lights for the studio. Kicks out a good amount of light and has a pretty nice dimmable feature and different colour temperatures. Works pretty well for both portrait and object photos. Lightweight and easy to move/adjust, but the stands aren't the most robust and do sometimes not fare so well in windy/gusty conditions...I use some small sand/rock bags or just swap the stands for spare camera tripods. These are powered via USB, so you can set them up with battery packs for outdoors or find bricks/hubs for indoors. Good options for those all around so definitely a plus. I've used these for studio, outdoor, camping, and a bunch of other applications. They hold up well and pack small, so these are great for the enthusiast. ... show more
