I needed a reader because I had a light on my dashboard. This plugged right in and gave me the codes that I needed. I wish that it allowed me to clear the codes but this is only a reader. Still it gave me the information I needed. Excellent for the money.

Biggest difference that sets this unit apart from the test is the ease of use, including BIG buttons and simplified navigation. Last thing I want to do under the hood is try to press tiny flat screen buttons, or dive through multiple screens with the sun shining off the screen. This unit has easy large press buttons that makes one handed operation simple. I am a single lady and for years I was so intimidated to take on my own car repairs but little by little over the years I have been picking up skills because I drive crappy cars. This has been a total upgrade for me, it's so easy to use. You just follow the instructions and plug it in to your car's reading outlet. It gives you some codes which you can easily look up online if you don't have a guidebook. Most of the things that have gone wrong with my car that has set off the check engine light have been pretty easy to repair, provided I don't ignore the light. This has saved me so much money, a lot of the things that I've been able to replace would have made other things fail if I had left them undone but with this you can catch it really early and just fix the problem. Anytime something goes wrong, I just use this and most of the time it's something I can fix myself I just unplugging apart and plugging in a new one. Honestly, if you can replace a vacuum filter then you can do most of your own car repairs. This makes it so much easier and has been really reliable for me. It works really well and it's small enough to fit in my glove compartment so I always have it on hand. I've even used it for friends who have had their check engine light go off so you know pretty well what you're dealing with. Game changer! ... show more

Unit comes with a basic user manual. I think this is a good intermediate scanner meaning better than just basic. Although at the time, I had no codes or check engine light. I plugged it in and went through some of the options. Nice. This will display and codes and give you the option to clear them. Simple to use. Having your own scanner is a good idea, in the event your vehicle’s check engine light comes on, you can at least see what’s going on. Coming from my husband who is a retired professional mechanic, this unit is a useful tool for doing diagnostic work on your OBD II vehicles. The processor is really fast. For the livestream data, you can select each item & it will give you a visual representation of the voltage, which can be especially useful for diagnosing things like O2 sensors and throttle position sensors. (See photo of my oxygen sensor reading.) And the I/M readiness & evap self-test are. nice features. The one thing he doesn't like is that it claims to have a volt meter, but can only read voltage to ECM through data link connector. It doesn't have separate leads to test external voltages as a stand-alone volt meter. ... show more
