Description

Two in One Overdrive Pedal One of the most sought-after dual overdrive pedals produced in the mid '90s is now in one unique pedal design-with a pocket size. NUX Horseman pays homage to the legendary Centaur pedal. There are 3 dials for primary settings and 2 modes: Gold and Silver, and it offers massive headway usually requiring an 18v input. Gold Mode mimics its classic predecessor; the transparent Gold Centaur overdrive pedal and the Silver Mode is a powered-up version with an extended gain range (Silver Centaur). NUX Unique Design The sound is based on the Centaur's voltage converter circuit. But the Horseman's characteristic design is crafted with a built-in OP-AMP voltage-converter driving the 18V to OP-AMP. Higher voltage- supply orders-up more harmonics, and convincingly reproduces the sound of this unique pedal. Clean Boost Another “classic” way to use the NUX Horseman. Very useful when used in combination with the amplifiers drive channel (or any other drive pedal). And, depending on the Gain - Output adjustment, it lets the Horseman be used as a clean boost. Dial-up a low-gain with a high output setting, and it adds mostly volume and minimal color to your sound. Natural Distortion Additionally, the controls can be set to distort the sound signal in the pedal, where two Schottky diodes can perform a waveform clipping. ( The germanium diodes are discontinued, we especially select the Schottky diodes to replicate the waveform clipping ) The "gain" knob is a double potentiometer (a "dual-ganged gain pot"), which controls bass and middle frequencies. Treble and volume are each controlled with separate knobs. True/Buffer Bypass NUX Horseman has an optional bypass mode. You can use the pedal in True Bypass mode to keep your signal untouched when the pedal is OFF in the chain. We highly recommend to select buffer bypass mode if you have more than 4 pedals connected together; switch to Buffer Bypass mode and there will be no signal loss in your pedal chain! Push and hold the footswitch and power-up the pedal; the LED indicator will show which bypass mode is activated; RED - True Bypass / GREEN - Buffer Bypass. Specifications . Gold and Silver model: 2 independent pedal sound in one mini stomp box . Gain \ Treble \ Output Controls . Voltage Converter . Optional: True Bypass / Buffer Bypass . Power: 9V Negative Tip

  • This is how much?
Just Awesome!

  • Was so happily surprised, and I own an actual Klon
I really wasn’t expecting all the much because of the price, and I hadn’t heard much about the manufacturer. But man, I was blown away by it. I actually own a Klon (silver) I’ve had for decades, but I never use it at gigs because of the value on the market of it. I rarely use it at home. It’s good of course but, I won’t say this is exactly the same but it sure is close enough. Just like the Klon, it can easily get middy, but in a pretty good way. This has a ton of usable range, and see,s like unity volume is way, way down on the knob. So plenty on tap volume. The gain is very usable. Like the Klon where many use as a boost, always on, to fatten up and get a bigger, deeper sound this works great for that. Also though when I do push the gain, it’s very nice. Turning it to silver mode, more gain, little more volume. I’m not sure how much I like that if my foot lingers on the footswitch when I turn it on, it toggles between gold and silver mode. Probably just need to get used to that, and as mentioned, if it is always on anyway not a problem. But also am going to see if on in gold mode for boost, and if I can get a setting with gain where switching to silver mode for solos. In any case, this is amazing value for the money. I was really blown away by it! ... show more

  • Sounds great
I just got it today, so I don't know about the reliability or build quality (not that I see any problems; I just haven't owned it long enough to know for sure), but it sounds great. I've owned the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe and two Soul Food pedals, and I like the sound of this better than the Tumnus and probably better than either Soul food. It's possible that I just got a bad Tumnus unit (I got it from Guitar Center, who has sold me used gear at new twice before that, and I suspected that the "new" Tumnus that they sold me was actually used or at least a display model), and there are manufacturing tolerances so that even two pedals of the exact same make not sound the same, but so far, I'm quite happy with this pedal, especially for only $70. It's a Klon clone, so if you don't like that sound, then of course you probably won't like this much, but if you like that sort of sound, this is great. ... show more

  • A lotta fun for the money.
It has sat on my pedal board for some time alongside my Mad Professor Sweet Honey clone and NUX Atlantic. I do have a Strymon and a Kelsey so I'm not partial to knock-offs but somtimes a deal is too good to pass up. The Horseman is clean and smooth and just the thing to drive your tube amp a little hotter at the sweet spot. You can make it sound a bit brash and edgy but I prefer the "gold" setting overall. And let's talk real estate; I love that I get that tone from a box the fraction of the size of a regular pedal. Not too noisy (I don't drive it full out. I let the amp bring the heat). For the price of a couple boutique burgers and beers this box is my missing link. ... show more

  • Great sound, great value, very small.
I liked the sound of this Klon-type pedal, and it was very solidly built. I would have no problem gigging with it. It really felt like a quality product. It is conveniently small, which may be an advantage for many trying to squeeze one more pedal onto their board. For me, it was a bit TOO small. The control labels were a little hard to see. It was also not easy to see the values of the knobs at a glance, being all of one color, with a pointy bit that is often hidden around the other side of the knob. Yeah, I know, I'm an aging rocker who won't wear his glasses. Also the way you turn the buffer on and off (by holding down the footswitch button when you plug in the power, and seeing what color the LED flashes) is a bit fiddly for me. I ended up trading it in for the substantially more expensive Tumnus Deluxe which has knobs with a visible white indicator on top, larger lettering, and an actual switch for the buffer control. Also it has some extra EQ controls. It does cost 3 times as much as this though. I still highly recommend this NUX Horseman pedal, and I am sure younger rockers on a more limited budget than me will have a great time with it. ... show more

  • Mostly...blind buy - no regrets.
Man I was blown away. I’ve seen a lot of hurtle surrounding K-style drive units in the past few months so I decided to take the plunge. Having never played a real Klon I love that this one has two different -sounding modes (gold and silver). Not gonna lie. My preference is the silver. Just hold in the foot switch for a tiny green LED to come on and boom - different tones. I don’t belong to the camp that “oh this is an overdrive” or “no, this is a distortion”. Turn the knobs and try it both ways! I’ve played guitar for over 20 years and studied classical and although my style has stayed much the same over the years, my tonal tastes have...matured. I like to run this unit low gain high volume, not in front of a pushed amp or anything, but into a clean amp. The silver side of it creates a very nice “amp-like” singing quality. If the silver is a little bright for you, back off the tone a little bit. Higher gain is a different character. A little too much sizzly edge like a Marshall, becoming muddy, so I prefer the lower gain. I play rock, metal, blues, and all kinds of stuff. This is a small footprint pedal with a surprisingly nice sparkle it can add to your clean tone. Hope you like yours as much as I do mine. ... show more
