I decided to use these lights to replace the old fixtures in my home because the original ones couldn’t handle the heat from the attic and kept burning out. Got these to go in a garage that is under living space, so the fire rating is important. These are built very well. The spring clips that hold them in are very strong, no issue pulling the fixture tight to the sheetrock. Super easy to wire and install, so much better than old style can lights. I really like that these fixtures have a wide range of color tamp adjustments. I am going to be installing a few different "zones" of lighting in the garage for different tasks. Starting with a "hanging out and puttering around" zone with a warmer light, up to "I need a star in the ceiling" level of lighting for detailed tasks. With these fixtures I can just get all the same unit and adjust each one accordingly without having to resort to "smart" lights. They also come well packaged, secure without unnecessary waste in the manufacturers box (Amazon is of course guilty of putting these inside a huge box to make your purchase look like a better deal, classic consumer manipulation). I got a few different sizes, shapes and colors of these fixtures, but this review applies to all of them. ... show more

Overall, I’d recommend these can lights. They’re on the smaller side and low profile which I think is nice. It blends in to the environment well. They appear to be of good quality, so far no issues. They’re bright and you can change the temperature, which is good. Depending on what its used for, different rooms require different lighting. My husband said they were fairly easy to install, however he has been in construction his whole adult life. Usually he calls an electrician he’s worked with for years if electricity is involved, but he said these were pretty straightforward. ... show more

    • Fire rating required for garage and lower floors...
The build and quality of these lights is noticeably better than one that is not fire rated. The retaining clips are metal, and much more sturdy. I prefer the 5000K color, so these are especially to my liking because they look like a natural white; these can be adjusted down to 2700K, which is basically orange. These Fire Rated LED recessed lights are required in at least two common residential spaces: 1) Garage due to the number of fires that start in the garage. 2) Lower floors, because of the small spaces and risk of fire spread. The garage is probably obvious, but the first floor on a 2 story house will require these when directly under the second floor of the living space. The reason for the fire rating is so the LED assembly will not melt, and create a hole in the drywall for the fire to spread. If installing these with insulation, it is still recommended to use a Recessed Light Cover, some of which are fire rated, which is overkill. A LED recessed light that is not fire rated can be used with a Fire Rated LED recess light cover, but the total price is more than just buying a Fire Rated LED recessed light. Overall, this is a good product and I would recommend. These recessed lights provide a very low profile look. The lights allow you to choose among several color temperatures so you can cater them to whatever type of room you're installing a lower temp for dining room, higher temp for living room, kitchen ect. Switching between temps is very easy - just adjust the switch on the junction box to change the settings. The fire rated lights also offer great peace of mind. Installing the units is very standard for recessed lights the wiring is minimal within the junction box and the physical installation only takes a few seconds per light once you've ran all the wiring. ... show more
