  • Fun instrument, good quality for a cheap price.
Color: Black/Blue
Fun instrument, kinda opened my mind up to reeded instruments- this being the first one I've ever fiddled with. I wish it had more notes, in that aspect it is limited. Really fun to jam out on though and build quality is pretty good. Looks nice.

  • This is the "Nuvo Dood". A cross between a clarinet and a recorder.
Color: Black
This is the "Nuvo Dood". Nuvo does make a recorder, but this is the "Nuvo Dood", not the "Nuvo Recorder". This one uses a reed. It comes with 2 synthetic reeds, which are better than most. They are 1 and 1.5 strength. (You may find you need a 2 to get the two upper notes to play in tune without wavering when you first try, although practice, proper mouth shape and only opening the upper holes will get it to sound properly.) The reeds are plastic/synthetic, and one of the better sounding synthetics I've tried. (Some plastic reeds really should not be sold, but these are very good.) The reed is designed to make positioning it very easy. The reed does not need wetting, which means, unlike a clarinet with standard reed, I can keep it on my desk and pick it up anytime and play. This is a small instrument, designed for children to learn on, but not just a toy. This is a nice instrument for children, although those upper notes are hard for a beginner to make sound right when using the soft reeds. It is made to be simple and upkeep free, so as to be easy for children, but I bought it for myself. I play clarinet and other instruments, including recorders and the Maui Xaphoon. This is similar to a clarinet in some ways, in that it has a reed mouthpiece. It is about the size as a recorder, has similar fingering, but has covered holes, making the fingering easier. It is somewhat similar to a Xaphoon or Chalumeau, but with covered holes, and easier to play. I've tried several other "Little Sax" type instruments, and some are unplayable, while this one is a delight. ... show more

  • What a fun little travel instrument!
Color: Black/Green
I saw someone try to play this on YouTube and was intrigued. I've never played a reed instrument before (unless harmonicas count), but I figured for $30 I could try it. It took me a bit to figure it out but I was able to get sound from it pretty easily -- I don't always have the mellowest of sounds, because I haven't quite got the positioning, but I can get all the notes. I really like the mellow sound of these better than my soprano recorder, and it will make a great addition to my travel music doodling repertoire. I like that it's sturdy and easily washed, too. Kudos to Nuvo. ... show more

  • Good quality starter Instrument
Color: Black/Green
Good quality instrument for a beginner, young or old. Cleans easily by running under the faucet. Puts back together easily. I can’t wait to try the flute!

  • Easy and fun!
Color: Black/Green
I'm a beginner duduk player, and I figured this might be an easier alternative to practice on. I got a lot more than I bargained for! This instrument is very easy to play and, despite looking like a toy, sounds great! It sounds like a clarinet, and the action on the keys is very smooth.

  • I love this little thing
Color: Black/Pink
I love this thing, it's like a clarinet for idiots. I really enjoy playing it. You are going to need to get a real reed though

  • Beginner friendly indeed
Color: Black
Easy to take care of (especially with plastic reed). Really fun to learn and play for beginners :)

  • A great value and fun for all ages
Color: Black/Green
I made a few Extremely 3AM purchases recently, and unlike many others, I don't regret these! I picked up the Toot, Dood, and jSax from Nuvo Instruments. So far I've enjoyed playing around with the Dood the most, though the Toot is the easiest to just pick up and play with its special lip plate. I figure the jSax is something I will work up to. I plan on picking up the jHorn at some point because it looks like a lot of fun to play. They were designed to be used in elementary classrooms, so they're sturdy and easy-to-clean. I find the silicon keys very tactility-pleasing. All of them are way less annoying to listen to than a recorder, in my opinion, but the Toot is higher pitched than the other two, of course. They're such a great value for the price. I'd recommend the Toot for as young as 4-5 years old, but saving the Dood until they have enough patience to get the hang of the embouchure. But for the price, I say get one for yourself! Making music is good for you. ... show more
