Description

I add this fiber powder to my chocolate protein shakes and its worked great to improve my GI health. I like that it is unflavored and doesn't contain anything but psyllium husk. You must add this to something else with flavor because it will be undrinkable as is. It also thickens quickly, so you must drink whatever you add it to right away. It is a bit grainy.   • No need to pay more! So simple and effective.

Recipe: As a drink: Add 1 level tablespoon (3 teaspoons) of NOW psyllium husk powder into a container. Add 12 ounces of water (I use distilled). Stir vigorously with a milk frother. Drink IMMEDIATELY. If you wait even a minute the consistency becomes unpleasant. An alternative is to mix with unsweetened applesauce. You need to eat it quickly! It starts to thicken as soon as it's combined with any type of liquid or moisture. Now for the review: There's no way to sugar-coat it so I'll just say it. I've reached that age (50) where I need some help with the fiber in my diet. I eat apples and beans quite often but they don't seem to be enough. Now for the graphic part. Look away now if you're squeamish. I recently had a thrombosed hemorrhoid that lasted for several days and finally burst. I attribute this to straining at the toilet. As I've gotten older I noticed that I might not go for a few days, somedays several days, then all at once I have to go 5-8 times in a few hour span. This is an absolute onslaught to my system and causes flare-ups. The thrombosed roid was a first. I want it to be the last! Enter psyllium husk from NOW FOODS. I originally started using it during 2017 when I was doing Keto. With it's 7 grams of dietary fiber and 8 total carbs it works out to 1 net carb/tbsp. If you've done Keto you know how hard it can be to stay regular. I eventually stopped the diet and let the psyllium husk go stale. Never again will I be without this product! It is one of the few things I can put into my body and see and feel results almost immediately. I buy the 24 ounce bags of powder. One level tablespoon is what I take, so that means I can get 76 servings or enough to last me 2.5 months. There are other brands and flavors of this on the market that are much more expensive. Do yourself a favor and just get this one. It really is the best I've tried. You can get a better deal on it if you buy the 'husks' instead of the powder. I've used it before to add to baking goods and applesauce. It's really hard to drink the 'husks' version. At the time of writing (8-28-24) a dose (1 tbsp) is 23.7 cents. When I was suffering with the roids I would have pad thousands of dollars for relief. I consider this preventative maintenance (insert wry smile here). ... show more

I love this product. I have used it for years. Great value. Very little taste. Mixes well. Works great. I love how it thickens up. The only thing is you have to drink it quickly after mixing it or it will be hard to swallow. Highly recommend.

So this product is high quality but it tastes and smells awful and I practically gag when I have to drink a whole 12oz of water with it. Also, it starts to congeal very quickly so you have to chug this with water super fast which isn’t something I like to do. I’m a slow eater and drinker and it’s hard to chug that much water in the morning let alone water that tastes awful. I’m not sure why people say it has no taste! They must have weak taste buds. I basically have to add juice and water to dissolve and drink the psyllium. I can never finish the whole glass either! Anyway, I would recommend this as it’s healthy, high quality and is definitely helping with my extremely sluggish gut but it’s nasty 😂. I may have to start making smoothies just to tolerate the taste and smell even though I know you’re supposed to only take it with water. 😫 ... show more

I think that the very best way to consume this psyllium husk powder is by using a blender. I am using the Mainstays Single-Serve 16oz Blender that I bought from Walmart for $13. At first I tried "vigorously mixing" the powder with water using a tablespoon. That was a disaster. It just resulted in large clumps floating around in water. But in just 3-5 seconds in the blender, the powder is evenly distributed throughout the water and is already dissolved with no clumps. I usually go ahead and blend it for a full 30-60 seconds anyway, as I don't see the harm in using the blender longer. Some people say that you can just put the psyllium husk powder in foods, but the foods they list are usually liquidy foods like oatmeal and porridge. I don't believe that this is a good method of consuming the powder as it probably results in clumps and not only that those foods don't have that much water as the water is already absorbed by the oatmeal, etc. I think that it is better to just use plain water and blend it using a blender. I could probably easily drink this psyllium husk powder straight with water. It doesn't taste bad at all. It just tastes like "thicker" water. But I usually add a little lemon powder for flavor, just because I can. This is my first time using psyllium husk powder. I had no idea what it was or that it even existed. I thought that I could just sprinkle it on foods like I do flaxseed. That's why I was disappointed when I saw the instructions to vigorously mix it with 12 oz with water and drink it immediately. But luckily I already had a single-serve blender that I hadn't used in a year and when I used it, it was a great experience. I think the best time to drink this is first thing in the morning. You spend the entire night sleeping and can't consume water during that time. So drinking this first thing in the morning will rehydrate you. But if you were to attempt to drink this later in the day when you've already ate or drank something, it might be more difficult to consume quickly because you will already feel full. Of course, if you are trying to lose weight, then maybe the best time to drink it is before a meal so you will already feel full and then won't eat as much afterwards as a consequence. But for me, I need to gain weight, so I don't want this replacing my meals. That's why I drink it in the morning before I have my Cheerios, as Cheerios isn't that important of a meal to me. Another important tip is to not use warm, and especially don't use hot water. The warmer the liquid is, the faster it will get thick. If you used boiling water, the liquid might turn into a complete solid fast. ... show more
