Tried it out on a trip. Kept everything cold for an easy 3 days and still dumped ice out on the 5th day. I love the lower compartment to store lunch meat. Handles are meant that you can hook into place or run a security cable - things like this people seem to permanent borrow

    • PERFECT for salvaging refrigerated food during a power outage!

The FrostVault is PERFECT for what I need it for. We live in a hurricane-prone area, and sometimes have LONG power outages, and lose all the food in our refrigerator. After researching various generators, we decided they weren’t a good option for us. So we decided to just try to find a way to buy ourselves some time during an outage. This is the solution we needed. As a test, I loaded it with ice packs and other frozen items, and monitored the temperatures. 72 hours later, the temp inside the drawer was still around 42 or 43 degrees F, and the temp inside the main compartment was still in the 30s. I stopped the experiment after that, so I don’t really know how much longer it would have lasted. Granted, under actual outage circumstances, the results might not be as good because the house would be hotter, and we would be opening the Frost Vault more often. But even so, it would give us MANY more hours than the 4 hours the fridge will last once it’s off. This would allow us to keep our dairy products, lunch meats, condiments, salad dressings, etc., long enough for the power to be back on, or for us to find a hotel. Took this cooler on a road trip for a week. Kept my monster drinks cold for 3 days in the draw and beers, sodas, waters, a nice super crisp cold in the main. I did retop the ice at the end of day 2 just on personal preference. But the water was still very very cold.

If you’re looking for a outright cooler and not really interested in a dry storage this cooler is not for you, this cooler does not keep ice as long as my artic but it is the most functional cooler I have ever purchased. My wife and I went on a 2 week drive out west and had this cooler with us inside the small suv we have, we would need to put ice in every 2 days and drain(still a little ice) but I put a thermometer in the drawer and it was always around 43 degrees in the bottom every time I looked so we had no problems keeping lunch meats and other things at a desirable temperature. This was in the middle of July so this will definitely become my go to cooler from now on for hunting adventures during cooler months. ... show more

Love this cooler. Keeps ice for days and the drawer is amazing for things you don’t want soaked. Only thing I wish is if it had some wheels. When the cooler is packed it’s pretty heavy and difficult to move myself.

I purchased this for a recent cross country trip, specifically so I could carry my medications safely that required cold storage. Using standard cold packs only, my medication made the trip without any issues and stayed cold as required. The cold packs lasted for three days without any need to re-freeze them. This is a great cooler, and a good size - almost too big. I would be just as happy with a 20-quart (Ninja - new product request!) as it would fit in the front seat or between the seats better. However for road trips where you need cool storage, or just a place to keep your drinks and snacks ready this is a perfect cooler! ... show more

I was happy with the drawer compartments which I stored the meat in. We camped for four days in 90 degrees during a hunt. Meat stayed cold and wasn’t soggy. We still had sufficient ice for another day.
