I've been using carpenter's pencils and various markers for years. For fine work, I use mechanical drafting pencils. I bought these since I was doing an exposed timber framing project and needed something I could clearly see and still have accuracy. These pencil holders work great and I love the built-in sharpener. One con is the sharpener blade is hit or miss if it will put a nice point without having to tilt the pencil. Only been using it for a week but I really like it. The colored pencils work good on steel but not so well on galvanized. It seems sturdy, if it lasts a long time then I'm sold.

It took me way longer than it should have to give these a try. I like them way more than the standard carpenter pencil, and have been using them exclusively. This kit comes with tons of refillable lead and the sharpener allows you to make a very fine point which is key for drawing accurate lines and marking measurements. I’ve always been a traditional kind of guy. I’ve used every kind of pencil, wood and mechanical. I’ve bought every kind of sharpener that is on the market. These are hands down superior to anything I’ve ever used. 33 years as a carpenter/cabinet maker. The built in removable sharpener is key! When I first saw these I thought the ergonomics weren’t up to par. Now that I own a set, I’m glad I spent the money and now own them. Had issues marking things with marker and unable to cover up. The pencil solves all those issues. Can wipe away with you glove or a wet rag. It is hard to see sometimes depending on what your marking on but nonetheless works. Happy about the purchase. Works great on concrete, wood and plastic.
