It may not hold heat or cold as long as you'd prefer it to, however, that's the same for almost any product like this. Your body heat will counteract the temperature of the mask. Personally, I have frozen it and used it, and works very well since I find the cold more soothing when I'm in pain or discomfort. Heat will taper off fairly quickly as it is not in a sealed environment. It's meant to be a palliative measure. I love it, and it's so soft, especially with the gel displacing the proper amount of pressure on your sensitive eyelids. Works for me and I am very happy I gave it a try. The storage pouch is perfect for my dresser to keep it clean since pet hair gets on all my clothes lol Don't believe the anti-hype, just don't overheat it, put it in the freezer if you prefer or just use it at room temperature. It arrived on time and was packaged very nicely, with a cute little card from the seller with warranty information, instructions, and a strong zipper bag for cooling without getting smells from your freezer or refrigerator. It is so soft and squishy, with just the right amount of pressure, with the adjustable elastic band. It’s a beautiful color too. It’s been great for my eye pain and for headaches. I got these for both cold and hot during the healing phase post eye surgery. They worked so great as cold packs that were gentle and comfortable. There is a soft fuzzy side and a plastic side. I used both as the ice pack warmed up. Then, when I needed the warm option. The eye masks can be microwaved to heat. I did have an incident with one of the masks. I got distracted and heated the hot pack past the recommended time in the instructions, and the eye mask exploded. That was my fault though. If you follow the instructions, these little masks work wonderfully. I am very grateful to have at least one more during this recovery phase. ... show more
