I personally hate buying premade cables online and this purchase illustrates why. For a little background, I work professionally in the automotive repair field for European vehicles. As a result, I handle a lot of automotive grade harnesses, wires and connectors as part of my profession. These components are engineered to last between 10 to 15 years supporting critical components during the service life of the vehicle which is exposed to all sorts of temperature extremes, which is also considered a durable good and often the second most expensive purchase an individual can make besides their home. Removing this cable out of the packaging, I can already feel that these cables are exceptionally thin and chintzy to the touch. Not something I can really describe in detail without having you personally hold a quality cable next to this one, . Do they have a braided cover? yes they do. Do they have jacketed metal casings on the end? of course. Will they work the way they are intended? Sure, when they're brand new. However durability comes into question. They may work for a few months after which whatever cost cutting the supplier took to lower the build of materials cost of this cable will become evident. From the possible lack of shielding, to the soldering job of the 3.5mm connector to the cooper cable leads hidden under the jacket. I just don't think these cables will last. Estimated build of materials cost to make this cable is probably $1 to $2 per completed cable with components purchased in bulk by the factory. I intended on using these to attach an AudioTechnica ATH-50x as a monitor for a Pioneer professional DJ controller rig. Where the wearer will be moving constantly and the equipment will be potentially exposed to drinks and human sweat. The action locking mechanism to the headphone doesn't lock with a satisfying tactile detent. Giving me the impression that one or two good solid accidental pulls will damage the cable. What also bothers me is that the pictures in the product listing have been graphically doctored to enhance the perception that the cables and protective weaved jacketing is far most substantial than what you actually receive. Most people won't notice and won't care if this cable stops working a few months after purchase and will just go out and buy another one. That's how this industry works. And any accessory supplier knows this. In conclusion: This cable WILL work as intended. It will play sound to your headphones. However, don't expect it to last more than several years or even several months of rough use, unless you're exceptionally gentle on the cable. I don't feel this cable is even worth the $10 unless you're in a pinch and need the cable ASAP. ... show more

I have had Audio-Technica headphones for more than a decade. They are great headphones for the price. However, the cords without exception, eventually fail at the point they plug into my computer. This is because around the plug it is entirely rubber. This cord uses a metal surround for the plug. Behind it is a spring to ensure support for the area where the cord receives the most stress. And the cord is covered in braid rather than rubber. In my sound system, all the better connections are braided. Like Apple which makes great devices, but routinely makes lousy cords - one has to wonder why AT does not make more durable cords. Perhaps it is another manifestation of planned obsolescence. The good news is you can get this cord, which fits perfectly into the headphones (even with a locking mechanism) - for less money and I feel confident will last longer than the AT replacement which costs 50% more. ... show more

I liked them when I got them but I'm having the same issues I had before buying. I have to turn the cable to get the audio working correctly and leave it perfectly still lest the problem crops up again. Cheap cord that works for about a year before failing.

This is an adequate replacement for the original cable on my M40X, but it is kinda lacking in durability. Have only used it for a week and the "spring" that covers the cable on the 3.5mm end has already stretched out from pretty mild use. Sound is fantastic, so no complaints there....Just wish they had used a different material to mate the end to the cable. ... show more

This cable is really good for ATH-M50x headphones. But the end that attaches to the headphone breaks after a while (few months of use). The problem is because the threaded cable rubs against the metal housing sharp edge and eventually rips through the threaded cable, fringing the cable and eventually making the cable break. This also eventually breaks the internal cable making the entire cable useless. That's because the end of the metal rubs up against the cable over time eventually breaking it. This ONLY happens on the headphone side, NOT on the 1.4-inch side. If the company who makes this product, protected the headphone side of the cable just like they do on the 1/4-inch side plug-end. This cable would be 100% perfect...... and it would not break anymore. This has broken twice now and its frustrating and annoying. Hopefully someone at their company reads this review and fixes it..... This is a major problem. ... show more
