I told myself I’d treat myself to an ember mug when I sold my house. That was last February. My house hasn’t sold but it’s getting cold. I treated myself to one anyway. It was well worth it. I’ve had several cappuccinos in it already. It keeps my coffee warm like it’s the first sip every time. The app is simple and easy to use. It’s a beautiful, minimalistic design and it holds the right amount of coffee for me. I hated putting boiling water in my glass to warm it up first and it still didn’t stay warm. I would say it weighs about the same as a regular mug. Now, I can’t wait to have my coffee and I’m glad to have a variety since I only made iced before. 10/10 get you one.     • Actually works!
I have had three sets of these cups. One for the office and a replacement in the house. I like the cup and it does keep my coffee hot, for a while. It comes set for 135 degrees and I like my coffee at 140. So the battery does not last as long. I usually get a half hour or a little more. Having to talk to my coffee cup through an app is a pain in the a** for an old person. The manual says that the coffee stays hot if left on the cup holder. I have never found this to work. The cup holder has been difficult for all the cups I have had, and I have had these for several years. The little pins in the holder have never been good quality and it is usually necessary to finick around with the cup to make sure it is charging. Handling two cups is difficult as the application is poorly designed and does not accommodate this feature. OVERALL, this is a great innovation. Over time, the batteries will get better and the manufacturer will learn how to put the controls inside the cup and dispense with the app. I gave it five stars and it rates five stars. Remember, this is a technology in its infancy and while a significant advance, it has not matured. The price is about double what it should cost. However, the cheaper competition is way behind. Love this product. Once I got familiar with it, I couldn’t do without it. I was bad about being busy, forgetting my coffee, and then it was cold. Not anymore.

    • Wonderful mug with room for improvement
I love this mug! I use it every day! It’s only gets four stars for three reasons: Issue 1: once your mug shuts off and your coffee gets cold, you are unable to simply place the mug back on the coaster, charge the mug, and warm it up. The mug just doesn’t sense any liquid in it since the liquid inside is the same temp as the mug at this point. To get the mug to then reheat the coffee back up to temp, I have to nuke it in a different mug for 30 secs so once it is poured into the now-charging-on-the-coaster mug it will sense it and begin to get it to your preferred temp. Takeaway lesson from this problem: don’t let your mug run out of battery. If the auto turn off happens while your mug is charging, you just take off the mug, wait a beat, and put it back on and reconnect. Issue 2: the mug doesn’t automatically connect to your phone. It’s silly really, but it makes a difference when all other Bluetooth devices I own are remembered and auto connect when they are turned on and activated. When I forgot to connect my mug I don’t get the notification that it has reached my desired temp and I wait a lot longer than I should before remembering that it wasn’t connected this time. Pulling up the app and connecting and seeing the temp it’s at isn’t hard, but it would be wondering if it connected on its own it would be so much easier and user friendly, especially for people who aren’t as tech savvy who may have received this as a gift. Takeaway: hopefully this is in development for the next iteration of the mug Issue 3: metal utensils will leave little marks on your beautiful white mug. I don’t know if anyone who doesn’t automatically grab a metal teaspoon to stir their coffee/tea with or to hold their teabags down with, but beware that when you stir you’ll leave little marks on the bottom/sides of the mug. Takeaway: you are warned about this due to the mug being ceramic, and I remember the first few days then simply stirred with a spoon the fourth day and thought, “Noooo!!!!” as soon as I remembered, and saw little marks that will just be there forever now. I would love it if ember designed ceramic spoons that could come as a pack and the option to purchase separately that you can use for your mug so it stays white and clean. I have ceramic soup spoons but they are too big and other spoons I see are too tall as well. Otherwise the mug itself cleans out the coffee marks nicely after each time you use it. If you keep these things in mind, and understand that the convenience outweighs these issues, you will love your mug as much as I do! Still, there’s always room for improvement and I look forward to seeing what they add to it next! 👏 ... show more
