    • Truly excellent all-around athletic shoes
I owned a pair of the 1011 cross trainers, and wore them until they were ugly and nearly falling to pieces. I used them for everything from gym classes to traipsing about Europe, to casual errands on the bike, and they were so much more comfortable and supportive than the various Nike Air trainers I had been buying for many years. But all good things must come to an end and when it was finally time to retire the 1011s, I could not find a replacement pair. After doing more than a small amount of research, and trying on several pairs of New Balance, ASICS and Nike trainers at a local Foot Locker store, I pulled the trigger and purchased the MX1012s through Amazon (what can I say; I don't have the luxury of spending more than I have to). The 1012s were great from Day One and they fit my foot like a glove (due in part to the multi-width sizing New Balance offers). Not only are they light, well-cushioned and wearable all day long, but they are well-constructed and the type of mesh used for the majority of the shoe really vents foot heat most effectively. Sure, I would have liked a bit more forefoot cushioning, as some have mentioned here, but these trainers remain the best Jack-of-all Trades athletic shoes you are likely to find. My one small complaint is New Balance's continued insistence on using that wretched metallic silver leather-like trim material in their shoes. Seriously, guys? *eyeroll* ... show more

    • A very nice shoe from New Balance
This is a very nice shoe from New Balance. I noticed that toebox width is narrow, so order 1/2 size larger. I have been wearing New Balance Shoes for years, mostly the MX608V2 cross trainer. I wear a size 9D, so I had to return these and order a half size larger. If you look on the New Balance website you will see the following information regarding how the shoe fits. Just scroll to the bottom of the page. New Balance indicates that the shoe fits true to size. The pictures do not do justice to this shoe. The blue accents offset the white for a very attractive shoe. They are extremely comfortable for walking or cross training. I would not use this shoe for long runs, they just are not built for that type of activity. My orthotics fit nicely in this shoe. ... show more

I have been wearing New Balance for years as they are the only brand which seems to fit me properly. They have always made a good cross trainer. These are very light on my feet. I use them for various classes such as boot camp/tabada, TRX, Cardio Machines, etc. I find them to be very comfortable and supportive. I have flat feet and New Balance is the only brand that seems to fit properly with padding that can be removed, and enough width for orthotics. ... show more

I have been wearing the New Balance Cross Trainer since the MX1001. The MX1012 has been a great shoe. I wear them to the gym and do 35 min cardio and 45 min of strength training in them 5 days a week. I normally replace them annually as New Balance says that the support and cushioning will deteriorate over time. Its a great shoe. I wear a 7 4E and really like the New Balance shoes. They fit, they are comfortable. New Balance also has GREAT support and stands behind their products. ... show more

I"m very pleased with this shoe. It is slightly narrow for me (2E), but I would have been swimming a little bit in a 4E. Such is the life of a 3E'er. Anyhow, I am very certain these will last. Love these shoes. I was doing a 40 minute eleptical every day and i started having bad pain in one foot. My running shoes just were not giving the support for the type of exercise. These give me excellent stability, nice cushioning and excellent support for long sessions on the eliptical and treadmill. The comfort is superb and the quality seems great so far.     • Not consistent sizing
This shoe does not fit as well as my older 1012 New Balance of same size (13) and width (4E). The length seems a bit smaller as well. The toe room is less as well a width of ball of foot. Otherwise, a nice shoe. After measuring, my new 1012 is 3/8" narrower in the ball of the foot than my 4 year old 1012 shoe. ... show more
