    • Great Way to Introduce Someone to Netflix
I'm trying to help my 72 year old mom save some money since she's on a fixed income but still thinks money grows on trees. She is not tech savvy and hates change, especially when it comes to anything that involves a computer, TV, cell phone, etc. (she still owns and uses a VHS player). I purchased her a Roku and decided to get her this Netflix gift card so she could see if this was something she could possibly use to cut down her cable costs without making any long-term commitment. I helped her set everything up (okay, I set everything up), showed her how simple it was to use, the HUGE variety of shows Netflix offers AND no commercials. Well, this might be the best purchase I've ever made for her. She loves it and is obsessed with Netflix! It frees up some additional time for me because she's 'too busy watching her shows' to need me to come over and help with her 87 projects. Win win! Using the card was easy - no problems and new subscribers still get their first month free! Gift cards make me nervous because one time I got a $50 gift card but somehow it wasn't activated first so I was out $50 and the store wouldn't reimburse me. That has nothing to do with this experience, though. I bought this for my Grandpa for Christmas because he has HBO and Showtime but was very hesitant to get Netflix, which I think is far more important to every day life than any one network because there are so many options for things to watch. As well, my grandpa is retired and sits at home all day re-watching Dexter (or at least that's what I assume), so I felt morally obligated to at least let him experience the joy of Netflix. I went over on Christmas to see if he needed help setting it up, but one of my other cousins managed to help him and he was will on his way through Orange is the New Black. Overall, I'm happy with this product, but I'm even happier that he seems to like Netflix enough so that I won't need to get him a card next year because right now he's watching it on his computer, but I'd much rather get him a Fire Stick so he could watch Netflix on his TV. ... show more
