I purchased this device for fast air-gapped backups of my primary desktop computer. It is compact, it works and it is really fast. To put things into perspective, I have a sustained data rate across my Cat-5 Local Area Network of about 80 Mbytes per second. When attached to my desktop computer via a USB3 data port the Zslim has a sustained data rate in excess of 680 Mbytes per second. The time to copy a group of 8 video files (approximately 16 Gbytes) to this drive was just under 30 seconds.     • It needs a lot of power

I bought this to use as a boot disk on a raspberry pi400. Every time I plugged it into a USB3 port it crashed the computer. If I plugged it into a USB2 port, it eventually crashed it and it didn't respond correctly. I tried it in my Intel laptop and it worked perfectly. I tried changing the cable to the SSD drive but that didn't help. Eventually, I used my Dell Laptop USB-C power supply to power my pi400 and everything worked. I have been booting off of it and using it all day. All the capacity shows up on Ubuntu on the pi400. If you are going to use this, you might want to consider a powered USB 3.0-3.2 hub so the drive doesn't take power from the pi. ... show more

The Netac External 250 GB EXFAT SSD seemed solid at first. After two and a half months of use, my Tesla could no longer read any data on it. Testing the SSD in a Windows PC, the files were there, but corrupt. The strangest occurrence of all, one of which I haven't seen before, is no tool I've used so far will delete the corrupt files or reformat the drive. I used Windows standard drive formatter, Windows diskpart, CCleaner Drive Wiper, and Minitool Partition Wizard. All failed to remove a single file on the SSD. Each time I seemingly wipe the drive, disconnect and reconnect the drive to my PC, all of the files are still present. Check disk repair also fails. Windows Event Viewer reports multiple disk errors. The seller proposed I pay shipping to send them the defective drive (with my personal files on them) and they will send a replacement. I elected not to because I don't want to spend another $15 to ship the SSD. Update 5/15/2022: Netac agreed to send a replacement SSD. Thanks! ... show more

    • Well built with, sustained speeds upwards of 300MB/s for both read and write

For the most the part, this is a great little SSD. The read/write speeds are not nearly as fast as advertised (though I honestly wasn't expecting that, as these types of advertised speeds are always theoretical max). With that being said, the speeds I did measure where decently fast, and more importantly, they were sustained. For read speeds I reached and sustained slightly above 350MB/s, and for write speeds I reached and sustained right around 300MB/s. For a small, portable and affordable SSD, these speeds are actually quite good. Furthermore, the entire SSD feels quite well built, with a slim and solid metal casing that never gets more than warm to the touch. In addition, the port on the SSD is USB C, and it comes with a USB C to USB A cable, as well as a small USB A to USB C adapter, so you can plug it in to any computer out there. ... show more
