The unit arrived with blades that had small imperfections that needed to be touched up in order to cleanly cut holes. I originally bought it to make gaskets. This is a hole punch, not a gasket maker. To produce a gasket you need to punch an outer ring and a centered inner ring. I tried several methods to produce a concentric, centered gasket but was unsuccesful to the standards I thought I needed. This set is great if all you want to produce is a hole and for that it is a very economical solution. If you want to produce gaskets where the center hole is actually centered, I would recommend you do what I ended up doing and buy the other set thats here on amazon that holds both the outer ring and inner ring on the same punch and that punches both in one shot. ... show more

I have no idea why my first one of these fell apart while I was in my shop. I think the parts are still on the floor somewhere, but at the time I really needed to get something done, and did not have time to lie on the floor to look for the pieces. I do a lot of metal grinding, and had no desire to lie down in all that metallic mess. I liked this punch so much that I just got another one rather than a different product. This punch makes marks even in hot-rolled (not annealed) steel, and I don't need a hammer to make it work. ... show more

I have a hole punch that I use for carpentry and I thought I could use that one working on the car but it just doesn’t seem to have any effect I’ve been drilling out spot welds and this works like a charm it works fantastic and I’m sure it’s going last a long time I just wish I got a case for it.

Before this, I used a punch/awl and hammer. Sometimes the punch would slightly slip from my mark. Using this center punch, my marks have always been on the mark. While it's adjustable, for woodworking, one press is good enough, for metal, I often need 2 or 3, but leaves a mark for my drill bit to start. ... show more

I liked the fact that the dies were well made and seemed to be durable; I.e., the tool should last for quite a while without needing to replace the dies. I purchased the tool with the intention of punching holes into an Altoid-like box's tin lid. I did have a problem at first where the tool damaged the sheet of tin that I was punching. One problem was caused by the fact that the throat depth of the tool was just barely wide enough to fit over the lip of the tin's lid and would scratch the paint if I wasn't really careful when I inserted the tool over the lid. I also found that I needed to extend the the tip of the lower die (the one with the hole) above the surface of the tool so that it did not mangle the surface of the metal that I was punching. This meant that I had to unscrew and rescrew the bottom die for every tin that I punched to get the tool onto the lid and off of the lid. Once I did that I managed to get some fairly clean holes. You can see the "practice" tin with the dented holes in the photo along with the "carefully manipulated" tin with the cleaner holes. ... show more
