  • Build is amazing; uses M6 screws to hold the unit together.
Durable, solid, rock-hard construction. Many of the screws that hold the unit together are M6 screws (as opposed to 1/4"-20 like the official mounting points). I tore this unit down and used parts from other devices to make a nice Franken-cage that can be rapid-adapted for director's use or 1st AC's use (with wireless follow focus). The extra parts are now sitting in a pile of ever-growing M6 threaded equipment and screws, so we'll see as time goes on how useful that is. Would have been super-excellent if they had just used 1/4"-20 screws and threads for the whole thing; but the price is amazing and the build quality is PHENOMENAL so I'm certainly not compaining! ... show more

  • The most affordable option but not without its compromises
This cage is a great value with a couple of caveats. The biggest issue I have is that because the rear plate is centered it blocks the battery mount of my Lilliput monitor. Yes, other monitors with offset batteries will not have this problem but those are typically more expensive units (Atomos, BlackMagic, etc.) and since this is the most budget friendly cage it seems I won’t be the only person with this issue. I was able to mount my monitor without the center plate but it does feel a little less rigid. The second issue is that the horizontal arm blocks the power port on my monitor as well. Because of this I can assemble it to allow mounting of the battery or use of the power port but not both. That being said the only other solutions I’ve found on the market cost significantly more than this cage and most are even more than my cheap monitor. Some day I will have a newer monitor to hand my client/director and at that point I might be able to justify building my own rig out of cage parts but in the mean time this will have to do. ... show more

  • A good value monitor cage
Although this is made for 7 inch and smaller monitors, I was able to successfully mount a Ikan VX9e 9 inch monitor to this Director’s monitor cage. The top and bottom plates are arca compatible. The frame is heavy duty aluminum with padded handles. Once again, no instructions are included so you will need your imagination to figure out how to put it all together. In my case, I left off the back plate so it wouldn’t block the monitor Np-F battery plate or inputs on the back. Just snug down the connecting screws and it stays firmly in place. There are openings that you can attach a strap (not included). As with many of cages and various pieces available À la carte, you can create whatever your imagination wants with or without add ons. ... show more

  • A good alternative to more expensive options
I bought this to build a wireless follow focus monitor / client monitor, and think it's pretty good for the cost. Although it has a lot of adjustability, the plate that mounts to the back prevented me from inserting a Sony NP battery into the back of the monitor. Most people power wireless monitors with a V-mount battery, but I have a monitor that draws very little power and a Sony NP battery is much lighter and cheaper. The other issue for me is that the cage is a bit heavier than I want. Regardless, I DO recommend this as an affordable alternative to the other monitor cages available. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised
Love this. I've used Wooden's cage many times in the past and I decided to try this one since it's significantly cheaper. Wow! I like this one better. Great for mounting a teradeck on the back. And the monitor mounts work perfect for my 7" SmallHD monitor. I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner. Defiantly an alternative to wooden's cage. ... show more

  • Good quality and professional
Easy and friendly to use video monitor director cage. Handled grip on each side, slip resistant for secure and comfortable handling and carrying. Can mount to any stand or rig with the attachable thread bottom. Adjustable framing so it fits both 5 and 7 inch sized monitors, which is really awesome cause I have both as well as 4 inchers. Would very much recommend and I really like that it comes with a wrench too to put it all together, they've really thought of everything! Thanks! ... show more

  • Well made foundation cage
I think it is more suitable for novices, because veterans should need more professional equipment. If you are just doing a simple shooting job, it must be a great helper. I am just beginning to learn to make videos, so I'm exploring many different products like stabilizers. And this is a good start, highly recommended:) ... show more
